I spend a good amount of time creating a effective post to warn fellow editors that pro tools can't  exist on the same system as MC 3.0, I lost 8 hours because I did not now this fact. Sure this fact is buried in the 3.0 notes in the .pdf they supplied. But who would expect that Avids own products can not work togeather. It is better to inform editors before they puchase and become frustrated ex Avid editors. Be aware freedom of speech is not a feature of this forum.

Avid doesn't delete anything here. Only the moderators do. If one of us did, we had a good reason.

Ok, I see it now. If you re-read that post, I think you can see the reason it was deleted. So, keep your tone as professional as you have in this post and things should be fine.

On a side note, the fact that Avid NLEs and Pro Tools do not work on the same system is very well known. It has been discussed to death in all sorts of Avid communities for years. One could say that, because it is such common knowledge, it's placement in the read me is justified. So, no big announcement is really required. I's nothing new.

I happened to see the post you were referring to and I must say I read it and thought, "This post will probably be deleted"

From day 1, when I began to participate in this Forum, I could see that it was a place filled with very knowledgeable people who were more than willing to share their knowledge with others.
That is, as long as the questions were written in a civil manner.
I have seen questions that raised negative vibes about Avid being answered in a very enlightening and level-headed manner, because the question had been asked in a civil way.
It is not about what you want to bring up - it is about how you present it.

Usually, if you get very hot under the collar about something, it is best to wait a little until you cool down and can post your question in a more subdued tone.

I am sure you can see the point of this posting and will continue to use MC and Pro Tools - and get good advice from the community here.

 This is a warning that I don't think is so well known regarding the new 3.0 and pro tools. Even if you put them on separate, independently bootable partitions, you run into trouble if you try to use your mojo, because protools 7.4 wants a different firmware version than MC 3.0 does.  So, until that is addressed, be prepared to not use your mojo; changing firmware each time is asking for serious hardware trouble.

Just as a side note solution to your problem, try Cakewalk Sonar Producer. Works on the same system as Avid and is really a superb audio app.

There are some methods of editing in it that would very much improve Avid's methods too. Of course, what audio app wouldn't be improved by J-K-L as well!?

Why not roll back to a version of Protool;s that has the same firmware as MC3.0 or vice versa

 i have to aggree with evan sonar producer edition is the bomb  it makes pro tools seem like a bundled program oh wait it was !!!    i do all my post on sonar pro tools is clunky and cumbersome compaired to it

im done with pro tools. sonar works so well alongside and on top of  avid  that i would never look back  avids priorities should of been 3 years ago  not trying to force us to buy another sound machine to use with protools i may be wrong but the time has come where there  just might  be more of us 1 man band edit suites that do our own sound post  than big edit  houses  i know that in minneapolis all the big dogs have left the houses and set up shop on there own leaving the big houses to use interns and contract back to the  real editors  when they need to. whats that say about the industry

I think even the most video-centric editor would benefit from a nice audio sweetening app, if it was quick to go in and out of it back to Avid- at least to draw volume automations on your main dialog tracks. I notice that one of the most glaring flaws in program is basic dropped dialog- when you can't make out what the actors are saying it's a big mistake to your audience- and it's so easy to fix.

Actually you'd think The World's Best Editor would HAVE a simpler volume automation draw as an essential part of the app! Maybe even the ability to *gasp* interact with some basic 3rd party control surfaces with *gasp* FADERS that every other cheapo app in the world has figured out how to interface with!

I can't imagine not considering that it's essential to polish the balance of your audio tracks in the final mix room with faders... and playback that's higher quality than what you can get out of a computer soundcard!

For what it's worth as info to those of you who are hindered by the ProTools problems already- Sonar will also let you use many 3rd party hardware solutions for your audio- both control surfaces and pro hardware for audio I/O. Really makes a difference to hear the program on a truly great playback.

I think not being able to use something better than a soundcard (without spending large) is still a huge glaring oversight in the design of Media Composer. It's inconcievable to me as an old studio guy to listen to Main Program using a soundcard! with mini-pins... oh, my...

Did I mention that I'm really happy to upgrade from XPro?
