Black border on viewing a clip

When I view a clip in either the timeline or a pop-up monitor, there is a narrow black border surrounding the image.  This applies to titles as well as live shots.  When I export the clip to a client, this border remains and they have asked me to remove it but I can't see how.  Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Sorry to have troubled you - I eventually found the answer, which is to resize the image using Scaling in the Effect Editor

    Hi,

Like Javier said, what you're seeing is the blanking area or overscan area (they're not exactly synonymous, but for our purposes in this thread they're the same).  When displayed on an external monitor you don't see this part of the picture, but when you export you get the whole picture including overscan, which is what you and your clients were seeing.

As you discovered, resizing the picture solves the issue.

    good luck,
    Carl

Cropping is the solution! Not resizing
