New to Avid, Do I need a Dongle?

I'm thinking of changing from Sony Vegas 8 to Avid and i'm wondering is Avid a software program only with registration or do you need a Dongal to run Avid.

The Dongle thing scares me abit because if you loose the Dongal  the software is inactive. Is this correct?

    Cheers

    Nomis

    Hello Nomis,

if you take a look at the list of things you'll receive when you buy MC 3.0 you'll find:

    Contents:

    • ...
    • USB dongle
    • ...

So the answer is YES - you need a dongle to operate the software.

    Regards Moses

P.S.: A friend of mine as "looked" the dongle to the Kensigton Look of his Notebook - may help you too.

The dongle is actually a great thing, in that you can install to as many systems you like, and then use the Dongle to unlock the software when you need to use it....an example would be installing on a laptop for when on the road, installing to a mac and to a PC...Now use whichever system you want providing you plug the Dongle.....but as you said, don't lose the dongle :-)

Yes, that's about right... if you loose your dongle, you can buy a new one, for the current price of your editing application. Count the dongle to your jewelry, and keep several eys on it when you are in a public place. I've put the dongles of our student workstations inside the cpu cases (they have usb addon cards with one port on the inside).
