I was emailed this Media Composer FAQ from Videoguys that I thought was worth sharing with you. I loved the section about editors migrating to Avid from another NLE and getting frustrated, the article say’s:
“DO NOT FIGHT THE AVID WAY! Have an open mind and start from the very beginning accepting and learning the Avid workflow…”
If you have the time and would like to read the entire FAQ, you can find it here:

This is what caught my eye... even the resellers are asking for it...
"I wish we had a more inexpensive HD preview solution for Media Composer. Mojo and MojoSDI will allow you to down-convert your HD footage to SD and preview on a standard defintion monitor, but that's not the same thing as true HD output. If and when any third-party hardware (like the Matrox MXO) becomes compatible with Avid Media Composer we will be shouting it from the rooftops."

There have been whisperings of "Stay Tuned" on this subject. There is no more information other than that....

How often has that been said here! But low cost HD monitoring? Bring it on, I say!
The simple instantaneous fix would be for Avid to re-price DX hardware to where it should be - $2,500 for Mojo DX and $5,500 for Nitris DX. After all, there isn't that much more to these boxes than an AJA IO, Motu V4HD, Blackmagic DeckLink....etc. etc. etc.

1st - thanks for the kind words and support for our FAQ. We'll make updates and changes as needed.
2nd - it is my understanding that Matrox has asked a handful of Avid editors to try out the MXO with MC 3 as an HD output device. Not sure what the initial feedback is on this, but it would be great if it works and holds up to real-world editing environements.
3rd - For those waiting to upgrade to MC3 (either from MC2.x or Xpress Pro or Liquid) - STOP WAITING! MC3 is rock solid and the performance and handling put it in a different league then FCP or Adobe or any other NLE for that matter. Once you start working with MC3 you will fall back in love with Avid. If you never fell out of love with Avid, then you'll just love it even more!!
4th - For those in the States - enjoy your 4th of July weekend.
