Idiots guide to Unity 4.2.3 Clients / resolution calculation?

    Hello Avid lover
I am trying to understand how one calculates how many clients one can be on a unity 8tb 6 client at 1:2 resolution.
The manual talks about 2.3 disks per client. I have 4 clients, 16x 500gb disks and a poor notion of mathematics. My question is: can I have 4 clients on the machine? I presume that the machine is always 8tb whatever the number of clients is (yup, dumb question)

You have to check the Unity Configuration guide for your particular chasis. That will have charts explaining how many streams you can expect at a given resolution for a given client count. 2:1 for the LP chasis (I assume?) should be able to handle 4 clients  The machine is 8TB total. Useable and what is allocated depends on your configuration.

There is a document called "MN_5.1_Performance_Gd.pdf"

    And there also is this.

I think the numbers for 4.2.3 will be close.

Thank you for the info. It is even more complex than I thought.

Screw complex.  At 2:1, which is what I gather your res is from the question, the answer is YES. You'll see about 2-3 streams of RT performance safely on that.

Your machine is always 8TB regardless, unless you purchase and add on more storage.

Thank you for your rather concise response. It is a bit of a shame that you don't write the avid manuals.
