    Symphony Nitris - multicam playback

We have a studio show in at the moment which has a main and 8 iso's.  We want to use a 9-way-split and, as it is a quick turnaround show, we are ingesting the material at 2:1.  However, when we playback the 9-split in the source monitor, about half of the streams keep stopping and starting.  I thought that 9 streams of 2:1 may be pushing the system, so we started using quad split.... but the same thing happened.  I have tried changing the video playback quality to draft, but this also didn't help...

Incidentally, the old favourite, "CORE_UNABLE_TO_DO", is also appearing every so often when trying to playback the 9-split.

    Anyone else had simialr issues?

We are running Symphony Nitris (DNA based) v1.8.3 on ISIS v1.4.

    Thanks

Even though you are only viewing 4 streams, the system is processing all 9 in the group. 2:1 is one of the most difficult resolutions to use for the system because of the high quality compression needed.

Is it any better if you make a group containing only 4 cams?

    Thanks BLKDOG

You are right.  I was running a quad split from a group of 9.... duh!!  I created a new group of four (2:1 res), and the quad split worked fine.

I've just done a few tests regarding 9-splits.

A 9-split with 3:1 footage works fine.... no stuttering at all.  I then tried 1:1.... not a chance!!

It looks like we may have to work at 3:1 as a compromise for these sort of shows.

    Thanks again for your input.

That is probably a result of the throughput of your drives. Symphony itself should have less trouble playing multiple streams of 1:1 as it doesn't have to handle any decompression before playback.

Just tested 9 clips in a grouped clip at 1:1 and played back fine. Did some multi-cam cutting with it, no problems.

Re: Symphony Nitris - multicam playback

Resolutions higher than 14:1(JFIF progressive) or 10:1(JFIF interlaced) are not supported for 9way Multicam on ISIS.

Also, the 4way split is guaranteed only up to 2:1.

    cheers,
