So I'm using a very old, but usually very reliable version of AVID Media Composer (7.2) on a Mac 9600. (please don't laugh.. :)
I just got the error SFCONS_VIDEO_TIMEOUT when I try to load my video into the timeline. Any suggestions on what to do to fix it?? I'm almost done with my project, but now can't see any of the media.
THANKS
anne
Just as a test, turn off "Render On The Fly". You might have RT effects that are flooding the CPU. Also, do any other Sequences load OK?
"but now can't see any of the media."
Is this a separate issue? Is the media actually marked as Media Offline?

Thanks for the note... my sequence is basically all effects (still images with moves). But I tried to open another project, and got the same error. Do you know where the option for "Render on the fly" is?? I don't know if my version has that...I'm going to go take a look now...
And the media is not showing up as offline, so it's still there, but I can't see it in the monitors.
Thanks...
Hello
I tried turning off the Render on the Fly option, but no luck. Thanks for the suggestion.. The audio in my sequence plays fine if I shut off the video line. Any other ideas would be much appreciated.. it's been a while since I worked on the system, and I can't remember all the old tricks.. :)
Thanks

Is this the first time this system has been used in a long time? Is it set up the same way as previously? Can you create a new sequence, with just 1 clip, and try to play that?
As a test, boot with the F and X keys held down and see if turning off the 3D board will relieve this error.

Thank you for the info, I will try that this morning!

The system is set up the same as the last time I used it, which was about 6 months ago. And even if I load just a clip into the playback window, I get the same error. And in different projects as well, but I will try to make a new sequence with just one clip and see what happens....

Well I tried the special reboot with the F and X keys, but no luck. I saw somewhere else on line, that said to try resetting the Janus board, so I was going to try that.... any other thoughts?
THANK YOU!
Nope that was my next thought though I was thinking the Janus board returned and AV_CONS_SYNC error. Let us know how it goes...
If you boot up the system without the drives on, does this issue persist? Does the issue persist across all projects or just this one? If you can load offline clips with no issue, I'm inclined to think you have corrupted media or a corrupted project. If so, start by creating a new project, and re-locating only the bins to it. If that fails, I think you may have some media corruption happening. If so, I'd re-launch with your drives on and then delete all your precomputes. If the issue still persists you may have to do the ol' hunt and peck through the OMFI folders to find the bad files/files.

Thanks for the new ideas to try. I haven't looked at any offline clips, only other online projects that gave me the same error, so I'll see what happens with that. And I forgot about deleting all the precomputes, I used a lot of effects, mostly real time, but maybe something got corrupted.
I'll let you know if I get it working!

I just wanted to let you know I ended up switching CPU's and things seem to be working fine. I'm still going to try and reset the Janus board to see if that will clear up the error. My guess is that I had too many real time effects for the old CPU to handle... Thankfully I had an extra 9600, so I did not loose my work!
Thank you very much for all your support!!
