I was trying to cleanup my drives and ended up deleting all my precompute clips by accident (still not exactly sure how). Now as I'm try to reimport some clips, the alpa channels won't import correctly. I've gone back and tried importing them fresh, but nothing seems to work. I'm just getting a solid black channel.
AvidDV 4.6
Thanks.
Check your import settings.... set to "Ignore"?
No. It's set to Use Existing. And it's importing with the matte key on it. The matte's just solid black. Plus, when I started I was reimporting it so (I assume) it was usings the settings I used to import it originally.
Depending on where your imports are originating from, you may need to invert existing. This would be the case for files from After Effects etc...
Mattman Life is good, eternal life is better.
I'm pretty sure I've always used Use existing for this type of clip and I have gone back and tried it inverted. But even if it is imported backwards, I should still be getting some sort of matte besides solid black.
SOLUTION:
In order to reimport the files into Avid, I had to re-export the files from Juicer. This time around, I exported them with the AvidDV codec. And there lie in the problem. Apparently, I had originally exported them with another codec. With the Animation codec, the clips do import correctly.
This is not to say that exporting them with a different codec was the problem, but exporting them with the AvidDV codec was the problem.
And as a note, clips exported from Juicer 2 do need to be imported with the alpha inverted.
Cheers.
As you've just discovered, no DV codec supports an alpha channel. Animation and uncompressed do and if you're working HD Avid's DNxHD codecs do too.
