No, as we taked about before, if you batch-capture or batch-import your master clips, your timeline will be automatically relinked.
Tell me, exactly from WHAT sources did you ingest your media? Last we talked you said your sources were all on that same drive and got deleted.

Yeah, they were on the drive that got deleted. But, I managed to export the timeline to another drive before I foolishly wiped out the drive. I am capturing through my xh a1 canon via firewire.
You have been more that helpful. I have learned a lot.
You have the source tapes and you put these tapes to the computer/Avid with the Canon?
If this is rigth, you can capture them back to your computer and continue editing.
Ok so, I think we need to define some terms here so that you can more clearly understand what you need to do.
Source: Tape or file used to create media in your Avid
Media File: MXF or OMF file representing your video an/or audio captured from Tape or Imported from a file like Quicktime
Clip: Data pointers to the media files on your drive. Clips do not contain video or audio, they are simply data.
Sequence: Data pointers to your clips which then point to the media files. A collection of clips cut together for a sequence.
Timeline: Graphic representation of your edit decisions. The timeline contains no Audio or Video. It is simply a graphic illustration of a sequence.
So, when last we went over this, you had said that your sources were on the HD that got wiped. I believe you meant that your Media was on that drive as your sources appear to be tape captured from your Cannon Camcorder...right?
If that is the case, then you are golden as all you have to do is to open the bin containing your master clips, select them all and choose "Batch Capture" from the CLIP menu. The system will, systematically, ask you for each tape in turn and automatically reload your media. YOur sequence will be back on line once again an you should have to re-cut nothing.
Wow, ok. I am capturing right now. Thanks for clarifying. Yes, the original sources were on hdv. I imported them from my camera. I am using the same dv tapes, but do I need to keep the same name or does that no matter. When I say same name I mean same name I used before when naming the tapes.
Do not re-capture the tapes. You want to BATCH capture the clips you captured the first time.
Do you have that bin full of your first clips? Not your timeline, not your sequence, your CLIPS.
Select them and chose "Batch Capture from the CLIP menu. The system will ask you to put the correct tape in the deck and then automatically capture the correct media for you.
I just got your message. Yes, I have the clips.
Ok...lemme know how the batch capture goes.
Usually, when that happens, it means that, while the video may be offline, the audio is not. So, hopefully, when you complete the batch, the whole clip will be there.
It played through the whole tape - now at the end , it keeps saying stuff like halted on clip such and such. failed to find pre-roll point on tape...
do you want to continue - skip clip / try again...
BLKDOG:Usually, when that happens, it means that, while the video may be offline, the audio is not.
Hey Todd,
Won't it also do this for subclips? I know I've seen it in another circumstance, but I can't remember off the top of my head what it is.
Anyway, moviemaker, BLKDOG is right, this doesn't necessarily mean there's a problem; sometimes that's how it works.
good luck,Carl
There is no such thing as a video emergency. My Demo Website
Only if the subs are video only.
Ok...so, does that clip encompass the entire tape or does it complete some clips and hangs on a new one?
Ok, I was batch capturing for the sequence. Now, I see I can't do that. I am doing the orginal bins. But, now it is saying I need to set the pre roll? I am sorry, I have no idea what I am doing.
