    Windows won't recognize cam

Did a search on this, couldn't seem to find any answers.

Been working fine for months on end. Today, it refuses to recognize my Panasonic HVX200. I'm trying to capture some dv25 stuff via firewire.

I did have an external hard drive plugged into one of the firewire ports. That never seemed to bother it. I have since, unplugged that and tried restarting the computer with the cam powered on in various ports.

System specs are below. Feel free to link me to a past thread if you feel that I have missied something previousy covered.

    Thanks.

Avid Xpress Pro 5.8, AMD 5200, 4 GB RAM, Nvidia Gforce 7600, 600 GB striped HD, SIIG 800 3-port firewire. [view my complete system specs]

Malcolm, is it that your CPU doesn't see the cam plugged in or just the Avid software?

Could the FW out of the Camera have been turned off in the menus?

    Re: Windows won't recognize cam

Okay, got it figured out. The CPU failed to recognize my external firewire drive as well. The device manager showed the drive to be defunct. I tried to update the driver but was unable to do that either.

Turns out, I had a cheapo Belkin card in there. The drive had died and the driver was no longer available.

Time to go buy a qualified card.

    Thanks folks!
