Does Smyphony Nitris 3.0 have this feature?

    CPU/GPU Acceleration of Visual Effects:

With this release, effects leverage maximum possible performance, including real-time effects, by using available CPU and GPU resources in the host workstation.  The system automatically selects the most efficient and highest-performance combination of processing elements whether CPUs or
    GPUs.

Or is this feature just with Nitris DX configurations?

    Media Composer, Symphony, DS, Unity

GPU Acceleration is only available on Symphony with the DX configuration. The original Nitris system has dedicated video effects hardware and does not use the GPU for video effects.

But Symphony on an original Nitris does use multiple cores now, in v3, or doesn't it?

So Rob, what does this mean relative to comparing performance and system response time between Symphony Nitris DX and Media Composer Nitris DX? Are you saying that Composer users don't get the same processing power availabilities when it comes to effects rendering times? If so, are there any other similar limitations between the two systems that we as users ALL should be aware of?

    Larry,

I think you misread. It is not about the difference between MC and Symph, but the difference between Symphony Nitris and Symphony Nitris DX.

The GPU acceleration works on the DX, not on the "classic" Nitris.

Still wondering if I can expect any performance improvement on my dual quad core classic Nitris with the v3 software.

Symphony V3 on an original Nitris will utilize multiple CPU cores for certain effects and codecs (if not handled by the Nitris hardware).

Both Media Composer and Symphony will take advantage of multiple CPU cores and GPU processing with the 3.0 software.

Re: Does Smyphony Nitris 3.0 have this feature?

Rob - Thanks, that's what I needed to know.  Job, I was asking because I will shortly have to make some serious buying and upgrade recommendations as we move to a new facility in about 2 years time. I'm actually glad to hear that MC and Symph will share the same processing power - that's going to factor quite importantly.

Re: Does Smyphony Nitris 3.0 have this feature?

Symphony V3 with the original Nitris will use multiple cores for certain effects:

    - Safe Color Limiting with 422 Safe Mode turned on
    - SpectraMatte with blur turned on
    - 3D Warp with highlights on
    - and others

It will also use multiple cores for playback of certain resolutions:

    - DVCProHD
    - HDV
    - XDCAM HD 35
    - and others
