    Re: Frustrated...

I'm pretty sure you can't remove sp3 if it came slipstreamed to the install disc, at least not without breaking a dozen things on the way - and that's what you wanted to avoid, right?

I'm amazed you bought a new copy of xp although you still had your original licence keys? I don't think it'd have been illegal or immoral to borrow a friends installation disc or  download from whatever source you're able to find, as long as you have your own, genuine licence. Actually I'd still advise to install from a sp3-less install disc...

Go ahead and try SP 3 with MC 3.0. Avid is testing it now so you may have good luck with it. I'm hoping it's just the ATTO drivers that were giving you fits.

OK I'll update on here as I'm doing this! Formatting the IDE drive at the moment, flashed the atto with the newest firmware then im going to install the most recent version of the driver, however there is two ? Version 3.10 and an older one, Version 3.00 - which says it (3.00) is windows certified, the other is not however.

I agree.  Avid DS Nitris uses VIE (Version Info Extractor) to determine if the system meets specs, and can even output a CAB File (summary) for evaluation if necessry.  The older Meridien & ABVB systems had Avid System Test Pro.

The first choice in the installer should be, "Run System Analysis".

As long as the Avid installer does NOT actually "stop" you from installing the software if it detects something that it determines is not right.  That would be a disaster given that there is a LOT of hardware that runs perfectly fine with Avid even though it is not "officially" supported.  If it's just a program that gives you a "report," I'm all for it.

As you'll see from my configuration, I'm currently running SP3 and have been for over three weeks now.  So far I've encountered absolutely no problems.  I suspect that, as is usual with MS service packs, that it's the same as SP2 with all subsequent updates but without the conflicts between them.

"... Avid DS Nitris uses VIE (Version Info Extractor) ..."

(Correcting myself) Actually, there IS a Symphony Nitris version of the VIE.  I'm not even sure where I got it, but it's dated August of 2007.  I can't seem to find anything like it on the DLC or in the KB.

No not just the ones I have posted. I am getting all posts.  Last night I got every post on page 3 of this thread.

Maybe it was just a glitch.  I will see how it goes today.
