I don't know what they are going to use and I dont think they know either. Right now they are using Avid Nitris. The field crews use Edius 4.5 which is very basic but very stable with little or no problems. that is just for meat and potatoes cutting.
It will be a PC software. They already have a big investment in PC. Panasonic keeps promising software but it never seems to hold up.
dreaux:But truth be told I much prefer to work on Vista rather than a Mac (Leopard).
Don't mean to rant, but why did you get a Mac in the first place?
dreaux: I have found Vista to be faster and more stable.
I have found Vista to be faster and more stable.
I have been running MC3.0 now for a while on Vista Business 64. Avid is flying on it and rock solid. I wouldn't want to get back to XP Pro to be honest.
Dont know about Windows Ultimate 64 though. Since it is not officially approved you may run into difficulties at some point (I honestly hope not!).
Well, I hope you get MC3.0 to run. Once you do and get to use it for a while I am sure you are going to love it.
I call them on that and they told me I could run it on either Vista or Mac but not both.
Did I misunderstand?
I got a Mac Pro because I was having so many problems running Avid Express pro 5.2. I went to Vista 2 years ago and could not run Xpress pro at all.
I tried a Mac pro so I could try Final Cut Studio 2 and still use my Vista.
dreaux: I call them on that and they told me I could run it on either Vista or Mac but not both. Did I misunderstand?
You did indeed. They meant that it would run on Vista (On a PC) or on a Mac but not on Vista running in bootcamp.

Brian Williams:I would suggest take a snapshot of your disk at that point using a disk imagine tool
Are those things better than disk real tools? Or are they a means of virtualising a hard drive? - One can only speculate...
dreaux:Installing Avid is always a crap shoot....there is always something it is not happy with...always!!
Not in my experience. The only times since Xpress 3.5 that I've ever had failures is when I've deliberately chosen not to follow the instructions. In those cases I expected issues and occasionally got them.
dreaux:I did ask the sales support people if it would run on a Mac pro and I was told yes. as long as I used Vista. I did tell them I am running Vista Utlimate however and they did say MC3 was only tested on Vista Biz
dreaux:Did I misunderstand?
BLKDOG:You did indeed. They meant that it would run on Vista (On a PC) or on a Mac but not on Vista running in bootcamp.
Apart from the fact that it's obvious that there was a misunderstanding, if you're running a non-approved version of the OS you should expect issues. You may be lucky, but you should plan for the worst. And in any case if you choose to run Vista on your MacPro you may be severely limited in the amount of memory that you can address.
dreaux:I already used my upgrade key so I guess I can not install on the Mac.
That just isn't true. You can install on any system capable of running that software version or earlier.
dreaux:Install and run Adobe premiere or Edius 4.5 or Final Cut Studio 2 and all install beautifully ...run great and NO problems.
Then you've installed them according to their requirements. Adobe is quite explicit and strict about CS3's requirements. In the particular case of FCS requirements are really stringent - it won't run under any MS operating system at all!
Downstairs in my building is a company that uses Edius for commercials. Every time the guy running the business (a friend) sees my Avid configuration and the speed with which I can use it he drools. The only reason that he hasn't made the leap is because he's afraid of the unfamiliar.
Avid has tight constraints because it tends to interface with the hardware at quite a low level to acheive the performance that it delivers. To me it's a small price that I'm more than willing to pay.
Putting it another way - I don't buy a games PC or general purpose tool and expect to build my business on it.
You won't believe this my client came back in for changes and another viewing copy had to be made, so couldn't do the spec list. Thankfully today I've had some time !
OK, Here we go...

As said the system is sluggish and drops frames, since upgradeing to V.3, fresh install of XP. I've tried moving media onto the system drive and was the same, So it's not SCSI related. Currently I'm only trying to playback DV420 media. Any questions please do ask, any help most appreciated.
Today I've brought in a spare IDE drive and have bought a more recent copy of XP Pro and following Brian Williams advice will swap drives and try and do an install also will try to update the bios firmware and install all the most recent drivers from Dell and see what happens. Any pointers appreciated.
- Cheers!
Spelling mistakes fixed!
One, thing, if you haven't already, 3.0 requires the latest ATTO firmware updates so be sure you've loaded those. We had a lot of trouble with SCSI - based systems until we upgraded those drivers.
Here's one post about the new ATTO Drivers:

....First, allow me to take this opportunity to wish you a happy Canada Day !
Brian Williams:If you plan on keeping your PC connected to the internet, install the rest of the XP updates - BUT NOT SP3.
....Wrong ! Wrong ! Wrong ! Don't do it ! Do Not Do This ! I decided to follow your advice and as soon as I had installed all of the appropriate updates (Not Service Pack 3), my system OS began do flow with various random errors ! Error dialogue boxes began to pop up everywhere ! I immediately rolled my system back to which it returned to 100 % functionality and stability ! Installing all of the relevant recent Micro Scrap Updates with Media Composer 3.0 will damage your system so don't do it ! Do NOT install Microsoft Net Framework above 1.1 with Media Composer 3.0.
The thing is don't peak too early in life. Currently at MC 3.0
Laptop, we're gonna disable your emoticons one day!
So, is there any one particular update you can point to that caused your problem? Do you think it could have been just the net framework?

Disable everyones emoticons! Am I the only one who finds these extremely annoying?

...... I love emoticons !

...I strongly suspect Microsoft Net Framework 2.0 or 3.0. Especially 3.0. I'm not a 100 % sure of Net Framework alone being the issue either. Ironically, I suspect one would have more success installing Service Pack 3 and bypassing the updates between the release of service pack 2 and 3. However, I won't attempt Service Pack 3 installation to find out.

OK the version I have bought today has Version Pack 3 included IN THE INSTALL. Says on the CD... WINDOWS XP PROFESSIONAL SERVICE PACK 3 VERSION 2002. Can i remove this once xp is installed again.
The reason I bought a new copy today is because I had a license number but not the original install disk, borrowed one from a friends Avid system. Didn't want to use it again incase there is something wrong with it or had been changed by the vendor, was HP branded.
