    Avid DVD troubles

Is there a place to get tech support for Avid DVD?

Tried hard and tried many things but it won't write a DVD volume. The simulation works OK, then I go to write a DVD volume, at the end I'm getting an error "Found PG with no video". From then on the project is corrupted.

At first I imported QT reference files - but gave up after getting many crashes and extremely sluggish performance. Then I encoded m2v and ac3 files with Sorensen and was able to construct a project, but no luck in writing the DVD volume.

This is a basic NTSC DVD with 4 movies and a single menu.

    Re: Avid DVD troubles

     GeorgeD,

I was using DVDitPro from Sonic before I bought MC, so my experience is not directly with Avid DVD - but there should not be so much difference.

The only times I had trouble with DVDitPro were solved by defragging the hard drive I was using for the DVD project!

Otherwise I have a tutorial that actually describes using a QT reference file out to DVDitPro (for final burning on a Blu-ray disc).
However it would be the same procedure for a DVD - just choose DVD instead of Blu-Ray on Page 9 of the tutorial.

    The tutorial is HERE

    Re: Avid DVD troubles

     Good point, Laptopeditor

However I looked over in the DVDitPro forums and found that the resident guru said that DVDitPro was working well for some people. He did not say if it was 32 or 64 bit Vista.
Another said that there were no problems with Vista32 but Vista64 might have problems.Yet another said he was running it with Vista64 without problems!

Of course, I am assuming that Avid DVD and DVDitPro are the same machine under the bonnet (hood).

One difference can be in the version number. I am running DVDitPro version13A.
I have a feeling that Avid DVD may be based on version 11A.

There is talk about a new version of DVDitPro being released later this summer......

In other words..... as with most software questions...... it's a jungle out there. [:'(]

I am still leaning towards a defrag of the harddrive..... that has fixed many problems for other users who post on the DVDitPro forum.

    Regards,

    Douglas

    Re: Avid DVD troubles

I switched to XP, reinstalled Avid DVD on XP, moved to a different harddrive, rebuilt the project, but get the same error at the end of building DVD Volume:

    Found PG with no Video.

Have you checked all related videos? ProgrammGroup without Video might indicate that one your clips (qt reference, i assume?) references a non existing source.

    Re: Avid DVD troubles

As a follow up to macjaeger take a look at the screen shot to the right in my tutorial HERE

You can see how your QT Reference file should look in DVDitPro's Imported Media window.
There should be a thumbnail of the Video plus a speaker icon for the soundtrack.

When you create a QT reference file you get 2 files. 1 MOV file and 1 WAV file.

Do not import the WAV file, only the MOV file.
The WAV file will follow along automatically.

    Re: Avid DVD troubles

I didn't use QT Reference files, I used m2v and ac3 files. I ended up using TMPEG author with the same media files and it worked without a hitch.

    Re: Avid DVD troubles

Glad to hear you found a way around your problems, but it's still mysterious that your elementary streams should cause errors with your DVD.

As TMPEG didn't complain the culprit seems to be Avid DVD (or the way you treated it *g*). At least this narrows down your search radius...
