In trying to install Avid FX that comes with MC 3.0, everything goes along fine until near the very end of the installation when I receive a "Feature Transfer Error" dialog box. The contents of the dialog box are:
Feature: Avid FX for AVX 2
Component: DLL AVX
File: %ProgramFile%\
Error: Access is denied.
Any help would be appreciated.
Check permissions on your Program Files folder.
It looks as if you don't have permissions to write to it.
Do you really want to know what's wrong...or do you just want me to fix it?

I'm the computer administrator and all the other programs, MC 3.0, Sorenson Sqeeze, Avid DVD installed fine. I did have a problem with Continuum having a similar problem. It wants to install the plugins to "%ProgramFiles%\Avid\AVX2_Plug-Ins" but there is no such folder. Avid seemed to create a "C:\Program Files\Avid\AVX_Plug-Ins" folder.
If I change folders to "C:\Program Files\Avid\AVX_Plug-Ins" during installation, all goes well for Continuum but I don't see the plugins in MC 3.0 (doesn't seem like I have anymore effects in my list). However, there is no option to change installation folders during the Avid FX install.
KimK - I just had the same error yesterday when trying to install Avid FX.
wmcole posted a workaround in this forum "MC 3 Installer Bugs" http://community.avid.com/forums/t/60020.aspx
I followed his instructions and it fixed the problem for me.
Vince_429,
Thank you! That took care of it.
You would think they would test things before they release them. This is just ridiculous. How could they let this installer go out like this? That's why every Avid product comes with a readme file with 50 pages of limitations and "workarounds".
At any rate, here is a concise version of the above fix that even I, a techno-tard, can follow: (copied from Avid.com knowledge base article)
-------------------------------------
When you are installing Avid FX 5.8 and the following error is popping up:
Feature transfer error
Feature: Avid FX for AVX 2 Component: DLL AVX File: %ProgramFiles% \ Error: Access is denied.
The installer doesn't find the path for the AVX2-Plug-ins folder. To get around this error message you may edit the according registry value:

Avid do "test things before they release them". They test as comprehensively as they can, on as wide a range of systems as they can, given the time constraints that they face. This is the reason that you may hear of a potential upgrade and then months go by before any further action in the form of a release follows.
For most users this particular bug isn't an issue - it hasn't affected me - and so I would suggest that the particular configurations that Avid tested didn't show the problem. When faced with a bug that is discovered post-release, all that any responsible software company can do is issue a fix and/or workaround as promptly as possible. Which Avid has done.
