Hi there,
Only part-way through this last edit did I wonder why media and effects and renders, etc., seemed to be going to different drives. I have a five-drive eSATA set-up, and I had planned (but I didn't made the right settings to execute this plan) to use drive #1 until it was full or near-full, and then with another project (and perhaps another client), switch to drive #2, etc. That seems like an organized way to do it.
I've now (on the advice of a friend), made the right settings in Media Creation to do make sure that everything on this project is put on drive #1.
But my question is: is this a good idea? Is it o.k. for everything associated with a project to be on the same hard drive? (I do back up all the raw media, by the way, on another drive).
Thanks, Malcolm

here is what i do: i keep each project in a separate folder, but have it spread across more than one drive. that gives better performance when avid needs to access disk (you need a good controller as well).
so on my approach when i open project named "lastone" I go to my data drive array and rename the "lastone" folder to OMFI MediaFiles. then before opening another project i rename OMFI MediaFiles back to "lastone", etc. this won't work for all environments, but for completely separate projects and clients it is ideal. then you don't have to mess with project consolidation within Avid.
hope that helps.
*note - if you can put your multiple drives in a striped array that is best, or my notes or kind of pointless.
