Hi
I'm running AXP 5.8 academic on a Dual 2GHz PowerPC G5. 2.5GB DDR SDRAM. Mac Os 10.4.11
I'm trying to capture DVCAM and HDV from a Sony Z1 camera using the inbuilt G5 firewire board for both input (via FW 400) and output (via FW 800) to a GTECH (mac formatted and partitioned) media drive
I can capture both successfully with the TC button switched off in capture tool.. giving me media that edits ... but only with avid generated time-of-day TC.However as soon as i try to capture with TC, I get an immediate nasty error message in a white box offering me the chance to exit to finder/ create error report/ continue etc.(Sorry i haven't copied the error message and the camera has now gone back to the hire shop )My first thought is.. do i need a second firewire board in one of the empty PCI slots? i have been recommended an Avid approved ADS PYRO PCI 64 cardHowever i wonder of it could be some other problem?Any help would be much appreciated :)
You don't need a Firewire card if you don't have a Mojo. Sometimes small timecode breaks can cause problems. Try updating your version to 5.8.3. Here's why from the Release Notes:
If you have problems with batch capture accuracy for footage captured over 1394 due to
undetected small timecode breaks, enable the “Enable detection of small timecode break”
option located in the Capture Settings DV& HDV tab.
hi hbrock
thanks for that
i will try the 5.8.3 upgrade if i can find it...
the error message is:
Try the download center: http://www.avid.com/register/xpro55_cpr.asp You'll need to sign in with your registration information. If you haven't registered, you should do so first. There's no additional charge for either the download or registration.
thanks very much for that
this link seems to be offering me axp 5.8 which i already have installed

i don't want to reinstall the same version....
