Hi Max,
I don't know if this helps, but I've got a MacBook Pro, attached via an eSATA card (in my ExpressCard slot) to five Seagate drives, in a Firmtek SATA enclosure. I'm running Leopard; Media Composer v.3.
It all seems to work fine. You need to be more portable than I am, I think. But I don't see why that should affect the workings of your hard drive(s).

Malcolm, You have now become a God for being the 1st one to awnser! Thank you O'great one ;--) I am trying to trouble shoot if it is the Siig card or the Seagate drives or the enclosures. One of the three are causing the kernnel panics. What card are you using? I am beginning to think it might be me enclosures. Thanks for your help!

A lot of drive problems have shown up in Leopard. Most of the problems have been with FW but, your problems may be related.
When FW drives show this behavior, swapping out the power supply for a new one has solved it.

Hi Max, I certainly hope the ';--' after the 'O great one' doesn't mean 'wink wink nudge nudge, I'm being sarcastic' (I've never really known what some of these keyboard emoticons mean; of course ;-- might stand for something like an exclamation mark, but then, why not just use an exclamation mark?!)
Anyway, the card I'm using is s SeriTek 2SM2-E card (made by the same people who make the enclosure I'm using). I'd suggest you try what BLKDOG mentions, though; he's has a somewhat higher status on Mt. Olympus than I am. Good luck with it.
Malcolm
Solved! A $5.00 power supply seems to have fixed the problem. TY Blkdog and Malcolm. As for the ;--), sorry, I have a stuttering finger, funny though it doens't happen when I sing, wink wink nudge nudge, say no more....
texmax1,
My ship has sailed the same course as yours- can you give me a specific part/model number of the power supply you purchased please?
Best,
Hi Grata,
I used another power supply from a long expired enclosure. I had looked online at owc (where I bought the HD enclosure) and fry's and they were are priced between $4. and $9.usd. The one i am using labeled "switching power adapter" and the output matched what the drive housing requested +5v 2.6a. Not one kernel panic since I switched the power supply. BD is a wizard, I would of never thought to try a different power supply. Good luck, I hope this fixes your problem!
Thanks texmax, i'll give it a go!
