Capture shows audio on device but not in Avid

I am attempting to capture from a DVC Pro deck connected to a Panasonic AG-DV2500 dv deck which is connected to the computer via Firewire.

I recently updated the machine from 4.6 to 5.7 and that is when the problem arose.  Since I lost my old Avid disk I felt an upgrade was necessary.  I have an ASUS motherboard with an Nvidia chipset.  It also has the Realtek audio card builtin to the motherboard.

Any help is appreciated.  BTW the computer specs are the same as the one listed below (different computer obviously).

Yep. This is a bug Avid refuses to fix. The workaround has been to put a tape in the deck, hit record, and THEN capture.

Do you really want to know what's wrong...or do you just want me to fix it?

    Ok well what is ADM_DSOUND_MIXER_OPEN_ERROR??

I hate to say it but that didn't fix the problem either (putting the tape in and hitting record).

Do a search for Realtek audio cards and your question will be answered. Not solved, but answered.

Ok so what if I choose to replace the card with a soundblaster live or audigy card, would the aleviate the problem of having to record twice (on tape and into the machine)???

Didn't work for me.  Nothing has worked for me, including lots of ranting, raving and pleading with Avid to get the problem that so many of us are having fixed.  It has become quite apparent that we little guys are simply no more than annoyances to them.

    1. Getting a Soundblaster card will solve your Realtek problem.

    2. You don't have to record twice. Putting your deck into record mode will trick the Avid and allow the audio to pass through to your Avid where you capture normally.

Ok so if I get a soundblaster card, will I no longer need to trick avid?

I answered my question....no, you still have to hit record.  I even backed down to 4.x version and its still messed up.  Don't know what I am going to do now, probably movie to Premiere or something.

Whats funny is that in 2 other computers we have the onboard Realtek soundcards.  Both are working fine with Avid, with the exception for the one with the problem.

Re: Capture shows audio on device but not in Avid

It's not the soundcard.  I am using an Avid approved Creative Soundblaster X-fi card and have never been able to use a version above 5.2 despite purchasing an upgrade.  Avid doesn't care, though.
