Sony EX1 and Avid MC - that old chestnut...

I'm in the middle of filming a documentary series on the EX1 SxS card camera and hoping to edit on Avid/Mac. We still can't ascertain if AVID's new upgrade can import this using the 35mbps format. And I see someone else saying it can only be done on PC/Avid. Can anyone tell me if you can import the footage to Avid, using Mac, at the highest 35mbps format? Also prior to shooting we bought AVID MC for PC... can we upgrade to the new version for Mac???? Thanks if anyone can illuminate..

You need to do a search as I have just answered this a few minutes ago.

Once you convert the files in Clip Browser, they import an work on the Mac Avids without a problem.

Also, your Dongle will run both MAc and PC. Just download the Mac software that matches your dongle version.

""""The workflow to convert the EX1 files is to use Sony's clip browser. Right now that's only available for PC but, Sony is supposed to release the Mac version sometime around the first week in July."""" Why do we need Sony clip browser.. why can't it work using the XDcam Transfer software that I'm using on the Mac already..? and which FCP is atuned to..

I couldn't say. You asked about the workflow in Avid, not Final Cut.

ok so my question is why do we need sony clip browser that's not due out till july to be able to import from the EX1 into AVID MC.. why can't AVID import it using the existing Mac-happy XDCAM Transfer software? Thanks.

Because Sony wrote that software for FCP, not Avid.

You'd need to take this up with them.

why can't AVID import it using the existing Mac-happy XDCAM Transfer software

.- 'Cause XDCAM EX is not the same as "standard" XDCAM, is another kind of format.
