Re: when to set Atto card to p2p prefered or arbitrated loop

None of us can possibly know everything. That's why we have this community.

exactly.   I've been through Unity, PC and Mac ACSR but things change.  There's been things in the that Avid said was one way and then down the road said it should be done the opposite way.  Technology is always evolving , I'm just trying to keep up.

I admitted my error in considering you an expert. Had I been asking, there would have been a question mark in the end of the sentence.

So you where being an ass. Your mistake is the inability to read properly. If I admitted myself as the all-knowing-expert then you seem to have concluded that on your own, I would not be asking 'ACSR/expert' to chime in would I? If you concluded that before this thread then again you must have failed to read since I don't ever remember declaring myself as the all-knowing expert.

Well, it's not often that I can master reading even a simple sentence, that much is true. Trying to find a fitting word can throw me in a mental stupor for ten to twenty minutes. Past Continuous Tense remains a mystery.

I am also liable to assume that members of a professional forum would not post erroneous information knowingly and those who contribute a lot must be very knowledgeable without proclaiming themselves such, which is also stupid of me.

    Cheers!

Re: when to set Atto card to p2p prefered or arbitrated loop

All this foolishness over a simple setting

    Vixel Switch is Arbitrated Loop

Q-Logic is Point to Point Preferred.

This is REGARDLESS of speed, tho typically the Qlogic is has only 4GB clients.   There are certain 2GB clients that MAY connect to a 4GB switch,  and the 3300 will need to be set to PTP.

There are non-approved configurations out there with 2GB QLogics, but we won't get into them, as people might start throwing fecal matter about.

thanks for clearing that up Doc.  And is it correct that lanshare connected fiber, the cards should always be set Arbitrated Loop?

OK, the official word from Unity support on the phone is

PTP preferred for Q Logic switch

    PTP for 4gb Lanshare LP

Arbritrated Loop for 2gb Lanshare or Vixel switch

Bingo-  there are exceptions to this rule, tho they are for "off the reservation" configurations and not officially supported
