Hi there,
Just before I update to version 3...
As I recall, there are a couple little Avid files I should save, before uninstalling 2.8.3 and installing v.3. Would someone remind me what they are, and where they are?
Once I've saved these files, I uninstall 2.8.3 and then install version 3. Right? Anything else?
I won't update QuickTime.
Cheers, Malcolm

From the knowledge base regarding upgrading. Start with "before you install the editing application".

Thanks Larry... I'd looked in the FAQs and Announcements above; I will go through the Knowledge Base article carefully now.

Hi again Larry,
I read through the document (it seems so much of it is dedicated to Windows users, which I skipped), and didn't see anything about saving some key preference files... which I recall from past BLKDOG postings, you need to do.
Are these the Site Settings.avs type files? If not, which ones should I save?
Thanks again, Malcolm
I don' think I've ever recommended saving any preference files. The only things I have protected are any AVX plugs I have installed.
Other than that, the install will not touch your user settings (Though I recommend making new ones with ay Major upgrade) so I can't think of anything else to protect.
Do you really want to know what's wrong...or do you just want me to fix it?

That's it, BLKDOG, the user settings - - that's what I was hoping to save... but I now realize I don't need to save those specifically. And I've now saved my AVX Plug-ins. Cheers, Malcolm
I have to echo BLKDOG's recommendation. Whenever going to a full X. new version, I always create my user profile over again from scratch.
Hey guys,
I just tried to launch MC3 and I get a message saying my system isn't licensed to run this verion of the software. Where did I go wrong?
Malcolm
You didn't update the dongle
Yes... (I don't know why this is printing bold; I guess it's reading my mood)... I forgot to update the dongle. I'll go and read about this now. thanks, Malcolm
O.K., back to normal font. That's a start.
I guess I need to update my dongle. But this is confusing: on the advice of the help article mentioned, I think I'm supposed to register MC3 and "attain a DBHelper.exf File". But when I go to the page I'm directed to, it thinks I'm updating to 2.8.3 (which I already did a month or so ago; which means I've already used my key).
What should I do now?
thanks, Malcolm
If you have already registered your software, just go to avid.com/protect and follow the prompts to get a dongle updater file.
BLKDOG, thanks for your help with this. I'm on the avid page... do I choose Versioner for Mac?
I've tried this, but can't figure out what app to use to open the two files that get downloaded (Updater.avd and versioner.avd).
It should be the versioner and it is used by the Dongle manager app you can download @ avid.com/dongle.
Thanks so much... it all worked, and I'm now up and running in version 3.
Much appreciated... Malcolm
