Has anyone out there already made some experience with XDCAM HD 422 (50MBit/sec) and the new MC 3.0? Somewhere I read, that MC 3.0 should support XDCAM - but there were no details about the resolutions, bitrates and so on. Also there seems to be no official statment from Avid, until they have done their (final?) tests.

And does anyone know, if there will be un update / new codecs / whatever vor the MC 2.7.x users - or do we have to upgrade our systems. As a simple update for € 2xx,-- doesn't work for the Adrenaline owners, is the "Support Contract" (Servicevertrag) the only way to go to 3.0?

EDIT: I changed the subject, as the main topic is the update from MC 2.x to MC 3.0

The update for earlier releases IS 3.0. You need to upgrade.

XDCAm's 35mb resolution became supported in the x.8.3 releases. Now, both resolutions are fully supported. 3.0 give you the ability to mix thin and standard raster HD formats in one timeline.

So I've got to sign the Service/Support contract to get 3.0 and pay € 1.500 instead of 300 as we have the Adrenalin and have spent more money yet anyway? New way of thinking ;-)

How is the support of the Sony PDW-U1 drive working?

Where did you get that? You don't need to have a service contract to upgrade to 3.0....

That's what our dealer told us. Users with the Adrenalin hardware have to get a special upgrade which is only available to owners of a service contract.

And on Avid's german web store (and I think also on the others) there's a note on the upgrade from 2.7 to MC 3.0 that says:

... This upgrade is not for Avid Media Composer Adrenaline systems. ...

So where to get an upgrade for the Adrenalin hardware owners?

Yeah, I don't get that either. I'm fairly certain that you do not need assurance to upgrade but I'm checking to see if that ridiculous idea came out of Tewksbury.

So, after checking with Avid, it seems that this upgrade is the one you want. No assurance required.

It's confusing to all of us so please let me know if you have any trouble and I'll do my best to get clarification.

BlkDog asked me for some clarification so here it is.

First the price is the same for an MC Soft upgrade to v3.0 as well as MC Adrenaline upgrade to v3.0 = US $495 ( Physical shipping kit).   However, with MC Adrenaline, the only one offered is a physical shipping kit and not a download.

The 2 Part Numbers that you would use when ordering through your reseller or Avid sales are:

0510-03789-01         Upgrade MC Adrenaline to v3.x       $495 US MSRP

7510-30011-01         Upgrade Avid MC Software v2.x to v3.x with Docs and 3rd Party Apps      $495 US MSRP

Some have been confused as to why the store offers both the MC physical kit at $495 and MC downloads for $295 and $395 respectively yet the download copy says NOT for Adrenaline users.  

Note that Adrenaline has always been handled through the reseller or Avid.  This time we are opening that slightly by providing the $495 physical kit option on the store.  

The reason is:

1. MC Adrenaline system ID's are assigned by Avid manufacturing when they ship to the reseller/customer. The customer/reseller then registers the product through Avid but not through the online registration process. Hardware is done differently.  MC Soft system ID are not assigned by manufacturing and they are captured by registration when the MC Soft customer goes to www.avid.com/register and registers the product.

2. When a customer attempts to register a MC system with a MC Adrenaline system ID, the transaction will fail and the internal Avid system which tracts your System ID gets clogged with bad data. This is why some people have reported that their dongle didn’t update or their system ID was wrong... This is because the system ID was slated for MCA and not MC Soft.

3. Until a couple weeks ago, the MCA version upgrade has been more expensive than the MC Soft version upgrade which we did change with the release of 3.0. However in order to correctly capture data and make sure that when you call us or update your system, etc. we know what you have and our database has the correct System ID records for you.

MC Adrenaline users can buy the upgrade on the store for $495 as a physical shipping kit or they can contact their reseller and order one of he parts above.

Thanks BLKDOG & Marianna - this are good news! I'll contact our reseller tomorrow and see what he has to say! 

I had a phone call with our reseller today. He stills says, that he doesn't know anything about this update option. Even after telling him the order number, he said, he believs, that this option is not available in Germany/Austria. I just mailed him Mariannas statment and he promised, that he'll try to find out, wether the mentioned update is available or not. Didn't call me back 'til now.

So I called another reseller, asking the same question. There I got the answer, that the update is available for € 341.

It seems, like I have 3 "options"
- Get a contract for € 1.500 and receive a update from reseller A
- Order the physical package for € 441 from Avid's webshop
- Order a package for € 341 from reseller B

I do believe what Marianna posted - but why do the resellers have such different informations? That's confusing for us as the customers.

I'll wait for the answer from reseller "A" and see how things work out....

Just to add your confusion.

The €441 in Avid's webshop in including the Netherlands VAT. I think the €341 is without VAT. 

I don't think, that this is the point:

The price in the austrian webshop is € 448 incl VAT = € 373 excl 20% VAT.
The price in the german webshop is € 441 incl VAT = € 371 excl 19% VAT.

That's not the same as 341....

Well... from my experience with my resellers. Resellers get their info thru the same channels you and I do. In some cases they are nothing more then a proxy that put 10% (or a lot more) on top of avid's price. You just hope that they have employees with good knowedge of avid products. That you discover when you require service.... With mine I have had both good and bad experiences...

In this case...They prefer to sell you a support contract cause you pay them, NOT AVID, a 1000 euro a year for downloading the updates for you and sending them to you or passing by and installing them.

But I suggest you keep trying to work with your reseller. Just be straight and firm about what you want from them.

So I just received a mail form reseller "A":

....Ich habe gerade von Avid nochmal bestätigt bekommen, dass ein Upgrade Pfad für Adrenaline kommen wird (der europ. Produktmanager hat heute die Freigabe erteilt), aber es gibt noch kein passendes Produkt. Angeblich haben die ersten, die schon versucht haben das MC Software Update für Adrenaline zu verwenden, keinen Erfolg gehabt, da die Adrenaline Systeme bei Avid komplett anders registriert werden als die Software Prdoukte und dadurch kein Dongle Updater erzeugt werden kann, den man ja braucht, um das Update zu betreiben. Wir müssen also etwas warten, bis es das passende Produkt tatsächlich gibt, aber es wird kommen!

for those of you not speaking german, I tried to translate:

I (the reseller) just got a confirmation from Avid, that there will be a upgrade path for Adrenalin (the eurpean product manager has given his clearance today), but there is no matching product. The first ones that tried to use the MC software update on a Adrenalin systems failed, 'cause the Adrenalin system is registered by Avid in a different way then the software products and therefore no dongle update can be created. But you need this one, to make the upgrade. We have to wait, until there is a matching product, but it will come.

HELLO?!? Marianna says there is a update, posts the order numbers, BLKDOG posts a link to the webshop and a reseller (and it's not a small one) has no idea of anything?!

I'll try to get more information from reseller "B" about his "source".
