Not surprised - your video card is completely unsupported. Best bet is to hope someone uses a similair card and can offer anything.

    Thanks!

But the Avid used to work before... do you know which are the best video cards to work with Avid? (I hope not to have to buy another one, but...)

    Ok, I've solved it:

Yes, it was the video card. I've installed the ATI Radeon X550 (RV370) drivers, and now it works!

    Thanks Solopost!

Post which specific drivers you used that way - for those who may be using a similair card - this thread could prove useful for them if they find themselves in the same boat as you.

Also, I don't deserve any thanks - I really did not do anything but direct you to a supported video card. You fixed this all on your own...

    ** GOING OT **

This really does exemplify what the editor of the now needs to be. They have to know their way around a computer. Especially those who wish to build their own system.

Don't just hit the boards and moan about "Avid does not work, but windows movie maker does. Why is Avid so crap?" - if you use unsupported, you are your best expert. The boards can prove useful for those who home-grow their systems... there are many a folk on here who have home-grown and have Avid running on some 'way off spec' configurations.... but as there can be so many configurations for a home-grown, the response of what I, initially, gave is usually the one you can get most of.

I oppose home-growns, but if you have the know-how and can do it successfully - I have nothing but respect for that knowledge... I have no respect for those who home-grow then moan about Avid being at fault. The specs are listed for approved systems. If you 'think' you can do it and find out it does not work - back away and go get another editing system that you 'rave' about. If you are like this user who has a bit of home-grown and have the 'want' to get your system working with Avid (not the other way around).. then the respect is due and this user get's my respect for not moaning, but fixing his systems inability to work with Avid.

    ** STILL OT **

I agree totally with Solopost - and I do build my own, and always have.  You either have to have the resources (be they technical or financial or both) to be your own support team, or you should just stick with Avid approved.  This is especially true if your livelihood depends on it, as mine does.  If you don't stick to Avid approved you can't blame Avid for anything that ensues.

    ** END OT **

Thanks for posting your solution.  It will help others.
