    JVC not capturing

I bought a cheap consumer camera to capture long tapes with but it will not work with composer. I tried auto-configure and it is not picking up the camera. Does avid support consumer cameras? I know it doesn't support 24p in JVC.

The camera model is the JVC  gr-d372u.

    Thanks

And if it still doesn't work and you can't get deck control, go to the "toggle source" button (looks like a tape machine) and de-select. Then you can launch the capture and manually roll your deck. Time of day timecode will be created for the clips.

    Re: JVC not capturing

    Thanks for your help!

I don't have the option to use generic settings and when I tried the toggle source it just tells me no input detected. It is ok the company has issued me a refund ( they were really understanding ) but now I am going buy an actual deck.

I am looking at the Sony DSR-11. Are there any in that price range that would be better? Is there anything specific besides inputs that I should look at when buying one?

    Thanks again Larry

In that price range, it's a good value, providing it does what you need.  If you want Serial Deck Control, for better frame accuaracy, you need to step up.  If you want what Sony refers to as an "Editing Deck", or one that can accurately do an Insert Edit, then you need the DSR-1500a or better.

"I don't have the option to use generic settings ..."

What does this mean?  In Settings > Deck Configuration, you're saying "Generic/DVBasicDevice-NTSC" is not available?

    Re: JVC not capturing

Sry I was looking in the wrong place for the generic settings but I tried it and it still gives me no deck. The camera captures with other programs but not with avid.

These decks can only capture SP correct? And where would be a decent place to purchase said decks.

    Thanks

Have you selected IEEE1394 for your input in the capture tool?
