    Mute clip in audio track

Is there a way to mute a clip in an audio track so if I undo the mute all volume settings remain?

For example, I have the original sound of a dialogue which I adjusted with volume and than I have some synchronized audio takes which I adjusted also with different volume settings. I want to let both tracks in my sequence and work with them so that I can decide later which track I want to hear and give both to the sound mix.

I could pull the volume down with audio mixer but than I have to do all the adjustments again.
I could park the clip on a different track an mute that track but than I have too many tracks to work with (I already have 16).

There is a mute button in the audio mixer but it only mutes the hole track.

Can I select a clip and say "mute that" ?

If not, put it in the feature request forum, please.

Just click the speaker icon next to the track to turn it off or click the "m" button above the slider in the Audio Mix tool.

Re: Mute clip in audio track

If you want to mute individual clips and not effect your audio mixer settings you could use the "Auto gain" rubberbanding to quickly put the volume to zero.  Then it's easy to remove later - just select the clip and hit delete - it will remove any audio keyframes you had added.

Essentially to mute a clip - you hit add key frame then drag the arrow head down

to unmute - select clip then hit delete

I believe you meant to say, to unmute, select the keyframe and hit delete. You don't want to delete the entire clip.

Actually, the poster means to select the clip with segment editing mode and hit delete. This will remove the auto gain settings without deleting the clip.

It also removes any volumes set in the Audio Mix tools though I don't know in what order the Auto Gain/Audio Mix settings are removed.

    An alternative work-around:

Create new tracks for the second audio take and just mute the entire track.

You can even hide the track if you want to keep things tidy. (Select the track and press Shift+Ctrl+H)

Re: Mute clip in audio track

    Thank you.

Auto Gain could be a good solution if I didn't use it on that clip before.

I never thought about working with hidden tracks but it sounds interesting.

    cheers
