    Insert a video track

Ever built a few layers of effects and then, noticed that you need to ad a new layer of effect somewhere in the middle of your composite?

Used to be you had to add the video layer on top and, in segment mode, drag the upper layers to the new tracks one at a time.

Recently I discovered that Avid has made this process MUCH easier by allowing you to insert tracks anywhere in the timeline.

To insert a track, just hold down the Option+command(Mac) or Option+Control (PC) and the "Y" key. When the pop up dialog appears, choose the track number you want to insert and hit OK. If that track is already in your timeline, the system will ask you if you want to insert a new track. Hit OK and a black track is inserted, pushing the existing tracks up one.

    A HUGE timesaver.

This was available on the Xpress Meridien systems.  It's been there for years, and it's a beautiful little gem.

I had no idea! How about 2.8? (Not near an Avid right now)

Yep.  It is on the oldest Avid here (Pro 4.6) here as well

You know, I never knew that either. When I saw the demo this week, the AE said it was new to 3.0.

Sorry to add to such an old thread, but it's a shame this feature isn't available as a simple right click mouse option.  Something like "add new track above the one you currently have highlighted".

    Re: Insert a video track

Should be easy enough to modify the CTRL + ALT + y code to include that.
