Does anyone know a software way of exporting from AVID and creating a file that can play on a DOREMI DCP2000 cinema player on either a JPEG 2000 MXF format or MPEG2 MXF interop?
It seems hardware encoding is the only way but it seems to defeat part of the purpose of these great projection systems if there's no easier/cheaper way to workflow our work onto them.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
You can export directly from within Xpress Pro to a Quicktime file. Choose a custom Quicktime format and you'll be able to select JPEG 2000 compression for the video. Not sure what help (if any) that may be, but it never hurts to mention suggestions.

Yes a jpeg2000 can be done in quicktime but that doesn't provide the MXF wrapper needed for the Doremi. It's seems a bit overly complicated and one wonders if it is by design so that the expensive hardware encoders can be invaluable.
Good Luck, Me and a couple programers figured out how to create Jpeg2000 mxf files that playback beautifully on a Doremi. There deffinatly is a Software solution but it requires linux and is all comand line. I'm Not going to give away the formula but I will say that the Jpeg2000 is only a tiny piece of the puzzle. The hard part is getting your footage into the XYZ Colorspace, If you run regular RGB Footage on a Doremi it looks VERY Red Heavy. Also the Jpeg2000 is only one out of 6 steps to making a Doremi file. I'm Not sure but I Highly doubt that there is a plugin to make a Doremi package from Avid. Oh and Even if you have an MXF file that is compatable it won't play without the xml files to tell the doremi what to do with the file. Yes this is very hard and I would bet was created that way to keep people from making movies at home and creating competition for the big studios. However if a stoner like me could figure it out I'm sure more people will eventually get it. Keep up the good work!
It's your fisrt post, polytonepictures, and normally you'd get a welcoming response. But since it appears that you signed up to the forum just so that you could gloat about how you could do something and you're not going to share the knowledge, I'm not so sure.
Nice one.
I'm Not going to give away the formula
That's not much help. Why are you here if you don't intend to share yor knowledge?
