Best way to save money on ACSR Certification

I'd like to get ACSR Certified but it it seems very expensive. The required classes are all over $1000 and there are at least 4.

I am very experienced with Avid, I've been editing and troubleshooting Avid for over 10 yrs and I don't want to spend money on the basic level pre-req classes.

Any advice on how I can get certified on the cheap would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

.- Well man, I respect you decision, but I've never known of one single employer nor never heard of one single case about any employer of any size asking for that certification.

They ask for experience, previous jobs and a killer reel/demo

Please understand I'm not telling that those ASCR courses are useless crap, maybe they are very good and useful.

But I've never heard of a single case of any employer asking for that.

    Anyway.

    For cheap? I doubt it.

Education is expensive in our country, even more if it's specialized.

Re: Best way to save money on ACSR Certification

I know but here in NYC there are lots of post houses and in their job postings are looking to hire only with that certification.

    Sucks.

I'm going for it regardless. Thanks for the insight

And you do realize those certs require annual renewals, at the same cost?

Re: Best way to save money on ACSR Certification

Experience trumps certification. A lot of the techs that works with the top posts here in NYC (freelance or staff) are not certified. Of course it does not hurt to be (outside of the pocket book). If you can demonstrate that you know your post I don't see certification being a road block. Today's facilities are looking for people who knows HD (all frames and formats), shared storage, OS X/Windows, and some IT (outside of the basic video, wiring, desktop troubleshooting, etc). DI and telecine knowledge also is needed for certain facilities.

I would try to get a gig in a small to medium, maybe pay or subsidize your cert classes and go from there.
