Getting New Laptop - need to run my Avid XDV 4.8

    Hi all,

I am hoping you avid Avid users will have some tips for me - I am currently running Avid Express DV 4.8 nicely on 2 PC desktop systems - I want to have a laptop for production on the road - I have downloaded recommended specs off Avid site, but wanted ask if anyone has advice for me in purchasing a laptop.  I want to also be able to run a couple of externals, should I need to - thanks in advance - Kath

    Hi,

The most important thing is the video card.  If you can get a laptop with an Nvidia Quadro FX card in it, that'd be best.

The Xpress Pro system requirements page lists a few specific models of notebook video cards.

    good luck,

Be sure to pay special attention to processors and recommended (not required) RAM as well.

4.8 is not the most forgiving.. see if you can test before you plunge in... Recent laptops come with recents hardware that require recent drivers.. not the best option Smile

    Hi,

Avid 4.8 will probably only run on older laptops, like pentium 4, not dual core, like I noticed. So definately check in advance.

I am currently still running 4.6 on my P15-s470 toshiba.  It is a pentium 3.0 with 512meg and the fx go5200.  I have never upgraded the quicktime past the official version for 4.6.  It still performs well for the limitations of 4.6.  Your milage may vary.
