Ex Studio, what are my options?

So i have this situation... 6 Media Composers and 1 Studio ... The guys are starting to hate the Xpress Pro there but would love to have PT available. Now we could upgrade Pro to MC but we break the studio cycle..

Q, what do i need (or allready have) to keep working in PT (with sequences not just tracks) and edit in MC?

    Thx for any insight ..

For me upgrade to MC. You still have the Studio version of Protools. You loose the tight integration of studio but still have the same export to Protools options via OMF or AAF the rest of us have always used. Unless the upgrade breaks the Protools part of the dongle. (To my understanding Protools should be on a seperate iLok)

Re: Ex Studio, what are my options?

I am in the same boat and here's what I did:

I upgraded my Xpress Pro to MC 2.8 and everything worked just fine.  Then when I upraded MC 2.8 to 3.0. the 002 stopped working in Avid.  The trick here is to uninstall PTLE.  PTLE must exist on a different boot partition.  The studio toolkit apps work just the same. As for the PTLE dongle, since the 002 and the iLok are the dongles, anything you do to the Avid dongle has no affect.  (The Avid dongle only applies to the studio toolkit and editor.)

This is of course more inconvient than simply having everything work at once, but the truth is there no need to run Avid and PTLE at the same time.  Also, just as an FYI, I swapped out my Mojo for a Mojo SDI and everything works great.

    Best of luck,

    Brian
