    External Storage

When I first started moving media to multiple systems I used the Lacie 500's, but I found even with the firewire 800, the system gets hung up when scrubbing video, and if I've got a lot of effects.  I've got two PC's with 2 terabytes of Raided internal storage, and have been carrying computers to and from separate locations (stupid i know) but was wondering if there was a sata drive or possibly another suggestion?

    Thanks!

    Re: External Storage

If you're working in SD even firewire 400 should be sufficient provided the drives themselves are fast enough. Since you're experiencing stuttering with FW800's I don't think upping it to a SATA or eSATA drive will help. I think Lacie drives tend to be 5400 rpm models, better (and same general price range) are Seagate barracuda series which run at 7200 rpm. I use USB2 connections with seagate pocket drives with my laptop with no problems. If you do want to go the eSATA route there are a number of drive enclosures you can get that have a multiple interface (FW, USB, eSATA) and you could use the faster eSATA connection, but then you'd need to have an external connection on each computer to plug in.

    good luck

    Re: External Storage

thanks for the replies.  All the Lacie drives are 7200rpm.  Was thinking about going the eSata route, and getting a card for the motherboard.  I was just wondering if there was some sort of eSata raid that someone might suggest!
