    Simple audio question

Just recently I've had to create a sequence with over 20 audio tracks. I'm mixing in Avid being that my Protools system is temporarily down.

For some reason, I can only monitor 15 tracks at a time. For example, if I click on the audio icon for ch 16, ch 1 will be muted.

Is this a ram issue? Some setting or something?

I've never had to have this many audio tracks in Avid and have therefore, never had this problem.

    Thanks.

I can't help you with your issue specifically (never had that many audio tracks in Avid itself), but if you're under deadline pressure perhaps you can try mixing down the audio that you can monitor (like the old tape days) to give you some additional space to work with.

Yeah, that's what I've been doing.

    Thanks.

You can only monitor 8 audio tracks at one time, so your only option is to bounce tracks, as you have been doing, I am afraid.

I'm pretty sure my AXP allowed me to monitor at least 16.

Yeah, it seems as if I can monitor at least 15 or 16. That's a weird limitation. I mean, I know it's a video editing program and not and audio mixing app, but still...

Weirder for me is that you can monitor more, as I took this straight from the manual on page 494 (under Monitoring Audio)!!

Curiouser and curiouser.  I went and checked on my system.  I can actually monitor 16 tracks simultaneously on my system, so go figure!

    Sorry about my misinformation.
