I'm not suggesting you are as dense as I am, but on the first attempt I tricked myself into thinking I was in your same situation. Here is how I fooled myself:
Where the instructions said to click Rescan, I did. Then Test showed MC3.0 in its window, but I never clicked th Update button at the bottom of the DongleManager Scan Tab dialog, so it never loaded the authorization from the udater file into the dongle. So I got the "you are not licensed..." message.
After I went back, clicked the Update button, pointed the DongleManager to the update file and all was well... I thought all I had to do was "rescan" with the updater file in the same directory as the DongleManager and it would update. Duh!

I've been doing that, many times with "new" downloads of the versioner file, with no result.
I'm sorry Dave, Jeff was supposed to contact you yesterday. As soon as he gets into the ofice today, I will bug him again. So sorry for the delay.

Many thanks.
I was just about to fire off an email to warranty, but will hold fire untill I hear from Jeff. There is probably a time-zone effect as well!
Cheers,
Hello,
On 6/18/08 I purchased an upgrade from XpressPro HD to MC 3.0 I made the upgrade and I got the software to work fine, except my Laptop did not work well with the Geforce 8800 graphic card. I just bought a Dell with 2 Nvidia Quadro FX 4700s. I installed the software from the CD, and now when I go to launch Media Composer, it tell me that there is no Dongle. I have used the dongle manager to scan for the dongle and it says that it can not find a dongle. I have put the dongle back into my laptop and it scans it fine. Does the dongle only work on one PC. I can't use my laptop because of the graphics card, and now my new desktop will not work also. I was fine with working at my clients edit suite, but now I have spent thousands and still can not bring work home. Can you please help me solve this problem. I need to have my home system running ASAP.
Thanks,
Curtis

No, the whole point of dongle protection is that you can install the software on as many systems as you like and just plug in the dongle when you wish to edit. It sounds to me like the dongle driver has not been installed or has become corrupt. You might like to try reinstalling the dongle software from the install disc.
The dongle is not tied to a computer. You can carry it around and use it on any system that has software the dongle is qualified to run.
Are you sure the USB port on your laptop works?
