Hello, this afternoon I purchased the MC 3.0 upgrade from 2.7, followed the install instructions from AVID and now when I launch MC it starts to launch and then immediately when the Boot info screen appears it immediately closes down. I have read through some threads for testing the dongle and now when I double click on "Dongle Updater" I get "DBHelper.exf was corrupted or could not be found.
- the dongle light is on
- I registered the upgrade
- I followed the instructions
- I have no editing system anymore
HELP! Thank you.
Hi...
What you need to do is to download the dongle manager (Which you should actually have since it's required to update your dongle to 3.0) from avid.com/dongle and run it.
The manager will tell you for what version your dongle is blasted. If it doesn't say 3.0, you will need to get out the instructions for updating your dongle and follow those.
Do you really want to know what's wrong...or do you just want me to fix it?

Hi there. Correct, it was part of the upgrade flow. It went through the process perfectly, showed and tested good for 3.0 and "Blasted" (which I WAS excited about) fine. It had all the appearances of working perfectly...and here I am.
Good so then the quitting out is probably not due to your dongle.
In that case, I would start by disconnecting everything from the CPU (Except the keyboard and monitor of course) and see if the system will start. If it doesn't, see if you can tell what the boot process starts to do before it quits.
I may have mis-spoken. The system is running perfectly. It is only MC that "flash launches". I say "flash launches" because it literally starts to launch and then immediately dissapears. It doesn't lock up or anything and the system continues to run fine. We did do a USB test and all work good, specifically the port the dongle is in.
I'm happy to try your suggestion if you still think that is a direction.
Thnx.
When I say "disconnect", I don't mean the dongle. I'm referring to any media drives or any other peripherals you may have attached.
What's happening is the Avid is starting to access its boot routine but a conflict is causing it to crash. I'm just trying to troubleshoot starting at a baseline.
If you don't have any luck, I would do a complete uninstall and reinstall and try again.
Is this Vista or XP?
Gotchya. We will try that now. We attempted a full uninstall and re-install twice. Everything seemed fine. It won't even let us launch 2.7 from the box. Although, I must admit, I am a bit confused how this update works.
XP
Let me pull everything and try this.
Okay, disconnected all peripherals and the results were the same. :(

Yep, that's what I meant by a full uninstall.
Yes, we followed that process to uninstall. We even went so far as to strip nearly 100% of anything and everything off the hard drive. Not that there was much, this is solely an AVID machine. I have a few other systems that are not AVID certified. I may jut try installing on one of them and at least see where it ends up in the launch process. What do you think?
FYI - this may not be your issue, but in the last two months my Avid install would open and then immediately close. Turned out I had been hammered with a virus and it somehow infected the Avid executable I guess....I had to reinstall Windows completely.

Well, couple things. 1. It takes exctly 5 hours to completely reinstall XP Pro. 2. Re-installing XP Pro didn't help one single bit. However, one odd thing is that there is no Dongle Dumper folder or file. When I double click on Dongle Manager it seems to be reading the dongle and it says 3.0.
Looks like I am left with calling AVID. GREAT!
Thanks for your help. If you have any additional thoughts I would love to hear them.

Can I come back in to my thread!
I tried twice today to update my dongle, after giving the site time for any version cycling (Sorry, don't knoe how to put it better), but still no joy, the same error message.
Bit fed up, and giving myself a good kicking, since if I'd held my nerve and waited another week I'd have got MC3 straight off, with the new goodies.

Hi Dave,
Have you done all the stuff in this post yet? If so, and you're not getting any help after emailing dongle support, I'd contact Marianna and see if she can light a fire under somebody.
good luck,Carl
