    no input signal. again.

    Hi everyone!

    trouble once more..

I'm using Avid Xpress DV on my PC and I can't get a signal of my Cam with
    Firewire.

Tried to configure my deck about 10000 times, rebooted everything again and again, installed DVBuffers, switched off my firewall, reinstalled drivers for my firewire-card...

    nothing helped.

Some days ago, I tried it with another Cam, and it worked (same type) - temporarily. Then it stopped working. Tested the Cam on a Mac (where the same Avid system is running) - and it didn't work either. I thought it's just the camera gone bad - tried it with the new one. It worked. Worked with the mac, with avid, with my windows. But my Avid keeps telling my: no input signal. I'm confused - it worked before, and now I can't get an input signal anymore. Desperate.

Any help? I'd really appreciate it!!

Hope u understood everything and sorry for my English!

    Kerstin

    Re: no input signal. again.

    Sorry, forgot:

    The cam I'm using is a Sony DCR-VX 9000 E, it's 9 years old.

The Mac (where I tested it before), is a Dual 2.5 GHz Power PC G5, Mac OS X 10.4.10 (or 10.4.11, not sure about that)

The PC has an AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2500+ 1,84 GHz, 1,50 GB RAM

The firewirecontroler has the VIA-Chip VT6306

Avid (on both systems) is Xpress DV 4.8

    Greetings

    Re: no input signal. again.

I've had the same issues and tried same many things. Same version XDV. Have used different input devices, usually a Sony PD150 camera which is even recognized on list of devices. Sometimes it's recognized, sometimes not. Sometimes one firewire port picks it up. Very puzzling. All I can wonder is if Avid software is not compatible with AMD brand processor somehow which I also have.

I'm thinking about switching to MAC and Final Cut express.

Kerstin, one of your problems very well could be that your firewire card has a VIA chipset. If I were you, I would start by replacing/installing a FW card that has the Avid certified Texas Instrument chipset.
