Hi All,
I've just upgraded from Xpress Pro to Composer as required now xpress isn't supported. One quick question - are the short-cut keys the same for Xpress and Composer? It would appear not because weird things keep happening. I've got a proper keyboard with all the short cuts colour-coded for xpress, but got a bad feeling this doesn't now correspond to Composer.
Am I right, or just confused (again!)?
Thanks,
Paul
Hi Paul,
No, you're right, there are some differences. If you open up your Keyboard settings, you'll be able to see the MC layout.
good luck,Carl

Thanks for that Carl. Disappointing - I now have a keyboard which is effectively useless!
Cheers,
Not really all that useless. Most of the commands are the same. I think there are only about 6 or 8 keys that are different.

Not at all. Open the Command Palette and your Keyboard settings and map the buttons to match your existing keyboards labels
Paul: First here is a snapshot of the Newscutter keyboard (which I believe is the same as XPRO) and under that the Media Composer keyboard. And here are the keyboard shortcuts for Media Composer.

Great! Thanks everyone, really helpful. I was all but ready to put my old keyboard in the bin!
Much appreciated,
You're quite welcome, Paul. We're all here to help.
And you can always order a set of MC replacement keycaps for your existing keyboard.

When I upped from 'Pro to MC I saved my 'Pro user settings to an external drive, then after installing MC placed them into the MC users folder. The 'Pro keyboard settings were retained and work perfectly. Now all I've got to do is make every keyboard on all my systems consistent, so I don't stare at it like a dufe until it snaps into my head which system I'm on.

If you've upgraded to MC 3.0 - and you should have - it comes with a keyboard settings file that matches Xpress Pro for people migrating.
Ok, thanks jwrl, how would I go about making this happen in terms of activating this keybpard setting? I've looked around and can't see anything.
Also, do the 'skip to next edit' and 'skip to previous edit' buttons always switch you to trim mode? It never did that before in Xpress Pro and I'm finding it pretty annoying. Maybe it's a difference with composer, but can't see the benefit myself
thanks,

Unless you map RW/FF to those keys.... yes.

Confirming Kenton's post. FF and REW will snap to next or previous edits. And in earlier versions, they USED to snap to keyframes when in the effects mode. Check yours for this, for some people (including me) this function has disappeared. Kenton, what about yours?
