    Re: MC 3.0 Upgrade Price

Did you buy it for the edit software or for the add-ons?

As far as I'm concerned, serious effects work gets done with other software.  MC is an editor.  It's nice to get Boris, but if it's not the absolute latest it's never going to be a deal breaker.

I do understand the want and need for this software. I am a big fan of Sorenson and all other additional softwares are extremely useful. What I don't understand is this entitlement criticism that people have about non promised free software.

     Dom,

I learned somthing in life. Nothing is  for free. We pay for everything. They may tell you you only pay $500 for the software and the rest is for free.I dont believe that. We pay $500 to avid and they pay some of it to Boris and the rest. So we did pay for the 3rd party softwares and we should get the latest versions. finally $500 is a lot of money in some places.

    Re: MC 3.0 Upgrade Price

     Fantastic!

My conclussion is different. Avid payed Boris et. al. for bundling their software with Media Composer. Therefore, they can not give them away for free and they have never, never promis someone to do it.

Then They promis you the update to MC3 and You got a free upgrade to MC3. Now You claim free upgrade to the bundle versions, just because Avid paid Boris et. al. for the software???? Where do You think Avid got these money from? I got several add-ins then I bought AXP4, but Avid have never, never offer me an upgrade of them.

In my world, it was not a secret that there was new versions of the bundling software. We decided to wait, because we have not project which need MC during april to june. If we have a project, I would happily paid the update and got the old bundled software, and paid the upgrade price for the incomes of the project.

Because the add-ins works with MC3 so what is You missing? Avid FX, yes, but that was not in the affair You do.

No, $495 is a lot of money if You do not use Avid for making money. Bu for most business, $495 is not much money, especialy if You is in the video business.

Sorry, but I can not stop thinking of spoiled children then I read this text about we want updated add-ins for free. I You do a bad affair, it is your problem. For most of us, the cost of upgrade to MC was paid within a month, or 10 billable hours.

I see many people here are worried that Avid is not making enough money. and I say dont worry they are doing great. Its all bussiness and competition. If Final cut Primier and the rest wasnt around there wasnt any Xpress or MC cheap software we will still working with hardware only and pay $50000 for MC, or not who can afford that. Competition is good because it makes them try harder for us get us cheaper prices more 3rd party and many more. that anble us to be better for our clients to give them better prices get more projects and give them better service with stuff like 3rd party. Everybody wins including Avid.

I agree, competition is good, but not everyone understand it. And less than they who understand it understand how a competiting market works.

Not everyone understand the importance of competition. There are lots of people who do belive competition is not good.

And even if it may be simple, in practice it will become difficult to deal with. E.g. competition will not drive down the prices of premium cars, such as Lexus and BMW, even if they have a larger profit margin than mass produced cars. If You study economics beyond the first degreas, you will find that competition and market economy is a very interesting field for game theory, which is not easy (The Noble winner in economics, von Neuman was insaint in 30 years after he inventing game theory. Surprisinly, this is the destiny of several of the most briliant game theorist).

    Re: MC 3.0 Upgrade Price

Ok Guys. I see where this conversation is going. I understand that some of you believe that you got what you deserve in the upgrade or at least what was "promised". Understood. Understand however that for a lot of of people the so called "free" software IS part of the complete package. I use the other bundled software about as much as I use the MC application so it was a bust for me.

OK, so no big deal right? I am told I can buy the boxed set for $495. I can deal with that to be honest. My question is did I just throw away $295 upgrading to 2.8 because I did not wait 2 weeks? That's where I get upset.

By the way, I can't seem to find the boxed set option in the online store. I also can't find how to get the free upgrade. Does anyone have a link?

    Re: MC 3.0 Upgrade Price

so which is the upgrade path from MC2.8 Adrenaline - I guess this one...

Avid Media Composer Software v2.x to Avid Media Composer Software v3.0
    $495.00

The other upgrade on that same page says software only versions and the $495 one does not so i guess this is the one if you have an Adrenaline.

    Is this right?

if you didn't have a business need to go to 2.8 right away when everyone knew 3.0 was around the corner, then yes....you did kinda throw away money.  but that really is not avid's fault right?

    Re: MC 3.0 Upgrade Price

I dissagree. We all new there was no risk in upgrading to 2.8 early as we were told early on that 2.8 to 3 would be a free upgrade. The 3rd party stuff was already out of date at the time 2.8 came out (after all why would these other companies give away free versions of their latest software).

What no one expected was in the space of a couple of months Avid to bundle the latest versions of the software and throw in Red to boot, don't try telling me that that is something Avid had no control over and therefore aren't to blame.

I still believe that Avid knew way back even before the upgrade to 2.8 was released that when V3 came out they wanted it to be all singing all dancing with all the bells and the whistles and therefore held back on all the latest and additional software until V3 was realeased.

What ever are individual oppinions are on this there are enough of Avids loyal cutomers aggrieved by this for Avid to take note and come up with a solution.
