I was on the Avid Online Store and saw that the Boxed Xpress Pro to MediaComposer 3.0 Upgrade costs 441€ in Germany. I remember that I spent that money on the Boxed Xpress Pro to MediaComposer 2.8 Upgrade. I did the upgrade because everybody told us we will get 3.0 for free. But is it true, that the people who did the early upgrade only get the downloadable MC 3.0 without the additional software??? I thought it would be an advantage to do early upgrades.
Do I get something wrong? I tried to find an answer but I couldn´t find clear statements on that.
If you purchased the 2.8 upgrade AFTER (I believe) March, or was it May, 17th - you are eligible for free upgrade to 3.0 download and NOT the additional software.

If you purchased after March 17th.

Thank you for your reply.
I purchased the upgrade after March 17 and I already downloaded MC 3.0. But here:
http://store.avid.com/de/index.cfm?page=templates/product_grp_index&categoryid=435
it seems that if you purchase the Xpress Pro to MC 3.0 upgrade now (instead of the earlier Xpro to MC 2.8 upgrade) you get the boxed Version of MC 3.0 for the same price. And I am wondering if the additional software is included in the boxed Version.
The same, but newer versions. Except that Avid FX (aka Boris Red) is included.
So there is a big disadvantage!!!
Is this the new thinking?
We were told that there is no disadvantage of upgrading earlier (to MC 2.8). If I knew that I get newer additional software and Avid FX for the same price I would have wait for MC 3.0!!! This sucks.
You are not alone in your dissapointment, many others are too. As an example when I bought thebosed upgrade I got an already out of date BCC 4.2.2 but I didn't complain as it was free - what could i expect. Well I now see what I could expect with the boxed upgrade you are now getting a completely up to date version of Boris Motion Graphics pack for free! To go on you get Sorenson 5 not 4.5 again V5 was available back in March, you get Avid DVD not DVDit 6. I calculate people buying the boxed upgrade are getting approximately £800 (1200 Euros) of extra free stuff. Had I known this back in March I would have held onto my money as I expect everyone would have.
I agree I think Avid will have ruffled a few feathers with this one, so lets just hope they really are listening.

Wow! That really does suck. I just upgraded 2 weeks ago under the assumption I would get everything in the 3.0 upgrade. They should have disclosed that.
Who the hell makes these decisions at AVid anyway? Why does upgrading have to be such a harrowing experience? Come on Avid! Are you really listening?
You get promised You will download MC3 for free, and You can download MC3 for free. Why complain? Avid have never include third party software in their downloads. With an upgrade price for these software of €370 (the cost of the boxed upgrade excl. vat), I can not think you are riped off.
Your old versions will work. and I hope You hade got some paid works so you alredy have write off your upgrade.

I upgraded two weeks ago also, and I was never under that assumption. The 3rd party software you got with your boxed upgrade should work with 3.0. If you must have the latest version of BCC etc, buy the 3.0 boxed upgrade - that's what I would do. You'd still be getting a couple of grand worth of software for $495.

I'm very disappointment too. I upgraded a month ago and now my 3rd party softwares are old and i don't get Avid FX at all. At least give us Avid FX!
Think about that.
I also made my transition from Xpress Pro to MC early, on the promise of a free upgrade to 3.0 as soon as it became available.
I sure wish I had held off. Xpress Pro had working for me just fine, the value-add of MC was negligible.
The 3rd party apps are part of the package, so the free upgrade is really only a partial upgrade. These guys ought to be ashamed of themselves.

Huh? There was NEVER any promise that you get more for what you paid for. Second the 3rd party WAS FREE. In fact, I bet if Avid never included or mentioned the FREE 3rd party stuff, post like this would not even exist. Your issue is because you guys did not get the latest and greatest of the FREE stuff.
Unbelievable.

Really . . .Keep it up, and they might decide to stop giving the free stuff to avoid all this hassle.
