I have read other questions on this, but still am unable to come up with a solution.
I am unable to capture audio from a DVD< just video, the DVD is not copywrite protected or anything, my camera is a panasonic pvgs50s model, and am capturing through firewire. Other editing programs (including windows movie maker) are able to digitize both audio and video, it is just avid mc that will not recognize the audio, any suggestions?
I am not about to record the DVD onto tape, then digitize the tape into the avid, for a couple resons:
1) Tapes are not long enough (3.5+hrs)
2) If i am taking that much time, i will go through Windows Movie Maker
Thanks for all your help
are you using your camera for play back or a DVD device,
describe your hardware connections.
1- did you try changing the audio input settings
depending on how your DVD is connected to MC,
SDI, AES/EBU, ... DV (IEEE 1394).
2- consider changing the maximum capture time default settings
if you're planning to capture the (3.5+hrs) non-stop.
It is an amazingly simple devise, an "idiot" can operate it, and indeed, many do. (Alfred Hitchcock)
Or use MPEG StreamClip (or similar) to create a QT file that you can import into Avid.

I use Cinematize 2.0 for getting DVD's into Avid.
I have my DVD player output to my camera (using RCA cables), then my camera set to VCR mode, and am using firewire (IEEE1394), i have my camera outputting to DV, as avid will not recognize the camera without it, and i tried adjusting the capture time to what i need, but i didnt because i wasnt getting any audio, but it still doesnt work.
I have thought of using other programs, but i dont want to waste my time converting the dvd to mov, then let avid transfer the mov file to mxf file. i have used other video editing programs to do this, but i dont know why avid wont accept it.
Thank you all again for you comments
No audio when transcoding through a camera or deck is a well known problem that has been about for a long time.
Use software to rip or another application.
After your clarifications on your connections,
the firewire should carry the audio as it's carrying the video!
I am not being able to think but of your audio settings options.
on the other hand as said
Kenton.VanNatten: Or use MPEG StreamClip (or similar) to create a QT file that you can import into Avid.
if you decide to use that advise,
consider saving with the Avid DV codec, that will import faster in Avid later.

you are right, and i can't remember how did i solve it.

the guy has 3.5+hrs, this will be a very time consuming process,
i usually do it for a some min. but for 3.5hrs, i don't know.
good luck and sorry for not being very helpful.
If all else fails, this will work: If you have a mac, or can get your hands on one, go to macworld.com/2468 and download the free program "Handbrake." This rips DVD's into various flavors of quicktime, including uncompressed. At that resolution, you would have to "set it and forget it" for a while, but it'll do the job. and you can import the quicktime into Avid
Good Luck!
Andy
Andrew did they fix this problem in V 3?
finally the workaround is to set the device setting(deck conf) to transcder
you'll be able to capture audio.
