Re: Very Impressed With DX !

    Hi,

None of our shows are file based or FW. "It's fire wire that sucks" Adrenaline is based off FW. Most of our clients do direct to disk telecine or SDI. Maybe the pentagon got a good batch. I'm glad that Avid got away from FW. We got out last 8 adrenaline systems last month and we about to send them right back for DX's. I know DX just starting shipping this week, so far its better than adrenaline. Just the fact they got rid of the lag between software and hardware.

I think Avid should offer more aggressive upgrade paths, which will speed up the path of killing adrenaline. Let the programmers work on perfecting the DX. Like taking advantage of all the cores and ram in a system. As a owner of company and 44 systems, I need Avid to move forward. There was a time when we had HD adrenalines on the shelf and clients calling for OSX Meridians.

I think DX the will catch like wild fire, why deal with all the *** adrenaline has to offer. We have it running on Leopard on unity 4.2.4.Maybe it’s a LA thing, but Adrenaline has such as bad reputation. I think Adrenaline was the main cause on why customers switch to FCP. Why pay top dollar for a system that’s plague with issues on the mac when you could buy a FCP and deal with its issues or just stay on a meridian system.

    Hi,

I never said kill Media Composer, just the Adrenaline i/o. We love MC and what it has done for the industry. We provide editing systems for very experienced feature film editors that are very demanding and expect more from Avid.

The software runs smooth when running in software mode, but when attaching the DNA we get bus errors, 1394 errors, beach ball while opening a bin in frame view and a lag when hitting play. Avid still has no answer on why in a 23.98 project when hitting stop the client monitor has a snap back.

In my opinion it will make sense if Avid released 3.0 on tiger. And if that happens companies will be searching the web for tiger/Leo bootable Macpros and the cycle continues on trying to force the Adrenaline system to work correctly.

We like the New Thinking! Starting with the management guys they canned who approved FW 400 for i/o. Did we forget that we were all duped?  Starting with Digital Nonlinear Accelerator chip in the BOB or Uncompressed HD. We even had a rep tell us that boards in the DNA would be upgradeable in the future to accommodate FW 800.

All Mac problems that the PC MCA's did not have.

Given the current Mac warning not to upgrade to MC3 if you have any firewire  connections makes me wonder if Apple have been messing with the standard FW protocol for a long time.

Not that it could ever be Apples fault of course. Wink

We're getting two MC Nitris DX's. My biggest gripe about Adrenaline is it latency in reacting to my mouse clicks and movements. From what I hear, since Nitris is no longer using FW, is it is as fast as the Meridian systems if not faster. Looking forward to that one little missed feature alone.

Suites: Two MC Nitris DX's with Mac 3.0GHz Quad-Core Intel and Fusion D8000 RAID 6TB storage. Mobile: Macbook Pro 2.0GHz 15" Leopard with MC 3... [view my complete system specs]
