Bye Bye Adrenaline ! I hope the software engineers don't waste to much time on fixing Adrenaline. It's 5 years old and firwire 400.
It's time to play catch up !!!

Nice to know most of that R&D money from Adrenaline owners, not to mention Avid posted justification for charging 5 times more for an MCA update than a MC soft update has actually been being spent on developing a third price replacement.
FYI we have all known this for a longtime and do not need a 15 post newbie rubbing our noses in it. Thanks
So, have you upgraded yet? Before you do, read this thread.

Sorry Andrew, that reponse was aimed at Postman, not you. I know you better than that - you are also a very cautious person. I just wanted Postman to see what he's about to get into if he makes the purchase now. Actually, I hadn't seen your post yet when I sent that.
No problems Larry. The male cow in me was still reacting to the red wrag of do not waste time on Adrenaline
AY, TORO! TORO!....OLEY!!!
No problem, Andrew and BTW, I agree with your sentiments. I make it a cardinal rule to NEVER EVER buy the .0 version of anything.
I feel the pain also. We are knees deep in Adrenaline systems. But lets face it, Adrenaline never really worked from day one. DX technology was available in 2003. But Avid decided to short change us.We bought adrenalines all on mac then we switched to pc and now back on mac, after thousands of dollars in G4’s,G5’s,xw8200,xw8400,xw8600,Macpro,3300,41xs,41es,Firewire 400 cards, onsite tech support and assurance we realized that it's the DNA with the all the problems. Other than decks most of the gear gets out dated with in 5 years anyway.I wish we could get more out of our systems, I just don't see that happening. Meridians systems lasted longer on the market because Adrenaline sucks. I remember when it first came out it could not do film. I feel Avid got it right this time around and I think it’s best for them to moved forward on this new product line. What happens if apple releases a Macpro with no fire wire 400. Then we would have new issues with fire wire adaptors.

I'm sorry, but in my experience I can't agree with that at all. Our 10 Adrenaline platforms have been very stable over time, including the DNAs. And I think a big part of that is (with the exception of XDCAM imports) we don't use firewire in our signal path. Each room is component analog video and audio in and out with A to D converters to put them into our live broadcast flow, when necessary. Any DV tape formats get transferred to Betacam SX for platform ingest, or are pre-ingested into our Media Manager server ahead of time.
Any significant problems have been network connectivity issues. It's firewire that sucks, not Adrenaline.
BTW Postman, I'm also very impressed with the improvements in DX. I had my hands on both Media Composer Nitris DX and Symphony Nitris DX at the Washington demo last week. Very, very nice. Tons of improvements, especially for the HD user who wants multiple streams of multiple formats of HD with unrendered effects playing back in realtime on a single timeline without so much as a hiccup. I just don't think that Adrenaline deserves to have a bad rap laid on it.
I agree with Larry... take FW storage and any other FW devices out of the loop and MCA is pretty darn stable. Our Adrenaline was and is quite stable, under version 2.8 anyway. The DX is much better, but really only based on it's connectivity IMHO. Our Adrenaline does all the same things the DX does for my shop... only without the lag. The DX has some more ports of some kinds and less ports of other kinds. The pci-e interface cures most of the fw lag and solves the bus error issue %99 for us. I do agree the DX is better, but th Adrenaline is still a very viable option and should not be dismissed. FW sucks in all respects, not the Adrenaline.

It will continue to be a second unit here for the next 5 years. (as Avid value it as a trade back at about $3K) On currently available info the Adrenaline's worth more as a trade up to Symphony DX but the add features in Symphony to my reading (no hands on) dont justify that move for me.
Upgrading a Pro to MC soft and buying a Nitris DX is my more likely path short term.
So for me long live the Adrenaline support.
AndrewAction: long live the Adrenaline support
Which we were assured would continue for at least the next 5 years, perhaps longer.
And I forgot to mention in DX, full raster support for all formats as well.
Postman, if you haven't already seen it, here's a video demonstrating some of the new DX features.
