Re: MC 3.0 End User Feedback

Well, if we are gonna play the teasing game, then I have to add that there are 2 reasons why I have not upgraded from Xpress Pro yet.

    1. DVCPROHD/p2 color levels problem:

    http://community.avid.com/forums/t/56323.aspx?PageIndex=2

    2. No sanely-affordable solution for HD Monitoring.

Since so much of my work has been dvcproHD file based work, fix those 2 problems and I will be first in line, cuzz I love cutting on Avid.  Otherwise, I really have NO reason to upgrade and/or stay with Avid because my clients don't understand why I can't give them a decent picture on a client monitor.

Interesting. I downloaded mine from the /protected website 2 days ago and it definitely says 3.0 on the splashscreen and the "about" I wonder what the difference is, and why there are 2 versions. Did you also upgrade from 2.8.x?

...Yes I upgraded from 2.8.3 and when you download version 3.0 from the Avid website, the unpacked setup folder reads 3.1.0 (BLKDOG say it's a typo) OK.

Upgraded to Media Composer from Avid Xpress Pro and now at MC 3.0.5. Also added Avid Studio Toolkit 5.7 running on.....HP Compaq nw 9440 Laptop PC w/2... [view my complete system specs]

...This is the mentally retarded aspect of the Mojo DX pricing and design. The DX Nitris is brillaint in pricing and design scope IMHO, but I can't wrap my mind around the lack of HD Analogue component monitoring capability on the Mojo DX like I get straight out of my Canon XL H1. I do think the HDMI output is a definite step in the right direction, but the price of that pretty little box ! No I really do think it is time for what I call The Mojo DX Light. This would be the bottom tier for the low rent wannabe shops like us. This version only has HDMI & HD Analogue Component in and out with RCA audio in/out. The user interface is FireWire A (Or FW B 800 MB for that matter) and Xpress card. - Price it @ $2,500.00 and you have perfection Yes. I mean the version 3.0 software is pretty near friggin perfect ! I mean really-it's great stuff ! Just adding the RT Timecode feature alone makes it so much more of a great tool than it already was.

With my XL H1 I think I can output my HDV via HD - SDI (But not the audio too since it is NOT enbedded in the HD-SDI output with this camera), but to do so for HDV ?? It would be great to use the XLH1 in full raster HD 1920 x 1080 mode by going live out from the H1's HD-SDI output to the MOJO DX's HD-SDI  input. I think this could be a really cool way to use the H1 on location as a raw full raster HD DDR location recorder, but they've gotta get the software to accept the 24 F capture from the Canon Prosumer camcorders.

Having also just upgraded from XPro to MC3.0, I too am very happy with the software. Even on a Core2Duo it's way more responsive then previously. All I want to see now, as others have said, is just a reasonably priced HD monitoring device (ie not 7.5k MojoDX). I dont need to input or output, just feed an HD monitor.

Installed v3 on my second system today, an HP8400 with MC+Mojo SDI.

Went pretty well, followed the instructions to uninstall the previous version of the software components. Rebuilt my user settings from scratch, in order to avoid user settings conflicts.

Few things: cannot get audio data (TC, clip name) displayed when using the new TC Burnin Generator effect. TC Burnin Generator displays sequence EdgeCode as "Src". Default Film Type display for Edge code is 4-perf, even in 3-perf projects.

EDL Manager is still broken when it comes to fades and dissolves in 24p and 25p projects.

Also, tried to do a QT export from a PAL 24p project. As soon as I want to set a custom codec, as soon as I click "Settings" in the export dialogue box, I get Access Violation errors. So I cannot export to QT from my current project on that machine. QT Ref does work.

....Yes it is ! Yes It's like getting an upgrade to your system with a near 50% performance boost without having to touch anything.

Still great to have improved performance, not complaining...!

Hey Job. So sorry to hear of your uninstall-Re-Install agonies. I just don't understand why so many folks are having a hit or miss with the version 3.0 upgrade ?????I didn't uninstall anything ! I never do ! The updated software's installer automatically detects the old software and unuinstalls it before installing the newer stuff. This is how I installed Version 3.0 and after heavy testing, all is well Yes.

    Hi Mark,

Back when you were having so many problems with Xpress Pro, I felt the same way.  Smile  Everyone has their own experience.

There were no agonies. It was just a little more work than you suggested.

    Laptopeditor:

I followed the upgrade instruction to the letter. That's why I uninstalled everything first, cleaned up some folders. Then ran the "installall" installer, that installed everything but MC. Then manually installed all apps. Updated NVIDIA driver. Upped QT to 7.4.5. Ran the 3GB utility. Rebooted. Updated firmware on Mojo.

The rest of the time was spent toying around and finding some bugs (QT export problem, TC Burnin generator issues, EDL manager bug).

Again, I'm not complaining. It was about as much work as I had expected. I have to stress that I installed this version on my less critical system (my main system is too busy on the current project to be upgraded), because I generally don't do x.0 versions.

    .- No.

ok...  explain to me please why you and most others keep putting that magical price for 2,500 on the magical Mojo DX Light? How is that still not an outrages amount to pay Avid so you can just monitor your project on an HD screen?  Thats just CRAZY to me to pay that much for a monitoring only solution.  I would maybe price the Mojo DX at that price, but if your getting anything less then Mojo DX that price needs to go way down.

He's talking about an I/O box as well as a monitoring device. Essentially it's a MOJO SDI with component HD In and Out. We've been teased to "Stay tuned." Let's see what happens.
