Hi Editors & Avid:
I was able to download MC 3.1.0, and install & update my dongle without issue. I began testing and editing away and was very pleasantly surprised how well everything worked. Even my old standard Mojo worked flawlessly. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised, but I have learned over the past year and a half to not take full functional features for granted.
We are particularily impressed with the great improvements in render times ! As many of you already know, I edit on an Avid certified power laptop (HP nw 9440) which is usually plugged into its HP docking station. My system now performs approximately 3 X faster than it did before. I can now say my laptop behaves like a desktop.
Also, I don't know how this is possible, but my full screen playback and source and record monitors now display a slightly sharper and more color accurate image. It is truly wonderful to have an editing solution whereby great forward design and performance improvements are clearly being made
It is obvious Avid software engineers have put a great deal of time and energy and thought into design and other improvements which jump out at the end user of this product ! Yesterday I outputted a rough cut of an HDV timeline to SD DVD Onestep with timecode burn in which referenced timeline TC. I can't tell you how important this feature is when working for another director. Since so much of our work is being done in the problematic HDV format, it is nice to see how the transcode to DNxHD 145 now takes place at approximately 50 % faster than it did before. Two threads are clearly better than one.
I was wondering if we can expect any further enhancements in render speed at the software level ? It is interesting to note how many improvements in performance can be made in software, as opposed to upgrading your hardware. I am one who is unafraid to be critical of performance or anything I perceive to be a bug. I am equally unafraid to praise a product which stands and delivers.
Congratulations to Avid for bringing out a product which truly is New & Improved !

The thing is don't peak too early in life. Currently at MC 3.0
I'll second that.
A very BIG THANKS to Avid.
Radman.

Just adding my two cents here. I have a quadcore waiting in the wings, but I went ahead and updated my old dualcore, with its decidedly non-approved GeForce 7950. I was absolutely blown away by the improvement in performance. And like you, Laptopeditor, I've noticed an improvement in image quality with my FSP. I put it down to imagination, but if you're seeing it too, maybe it's real.
The secret for a painless install appears to be to follow the read me rigorously as regards uninstallation of earlier versions. It's a little scary manually deleting keys from the registry, but if that's what it takes, do it.
I'd be quite happy with a Mojo Ultralight - HDMI only. For uumm... 800 bucks
...I beat the drum for the new Avid Mojo DX Light !

I followed the readme to a 'T' and it completely trashed my computer... I've been around the block a few times with computers and Avids, and this is the first time I've had a catastrophe of this magnitude. Might try reinstalling v3 this weekend, just because I'm a glutten for punishment.

I woundn't even pay $800 for a HDMI only "Mojo Ultralight" There is no reason for a video out card/box to cost that much. let alone what the new Mojo DX is costing. Black magic has a very nice little card for HDMI monitoring and even capturing for $250 and a pro version for $350. Now that price for HDMI out I can live with. and is that so much to ask for... all some of us want is to monitor our edit on a big screen for price that we all can live with...
Good job to the people at Avid for 3.0 of MC. Havent tried it yet but I am hearing wonderful things. Lets just get our pricing right for the hardware.

All I can say is...stay tuned.
Do you really want to know what's wrong...or do you just want me to fix it?
