I export OMF files (only audio) for a sweetening session every week for an audio house. How can I import the omf I created back into my avid project to double check my work and make sure the file i created is accurate????
When I try to import the omf to a bin, I get a multiple separate clips...
.If I export audio tracks 1 and 2 as an omf, can I import the omf back into a sequence as the same audio tracks 1 and 2 to check my work????
Thanks for the advice.
You should also have a sequene in your import bin, try clicking in your bin above your clip icons and press ctrl+E, this should reorder you bin with sequences at the top hopefully there is one there you should be able to load that into your record monitor and check it, that is as long as you creating your omfs from you sequence.
What we do is if possible import to another Avid that doesn't have any of the media on it. If another Avid isn't available take your media offline so that you can check that the sequence in the OMF is correctly linked to the media in the OMF.
When you import the OMF you will get all the clips involved, but there should be a sequence there as well - the audio system needs to know how to put the clips together.
We normally have a lot more than 2 tracks in one OMF, we'd usually export all in one go.

so you are saying i should take the generated exported omf sequence and take that offline and then import the omf and see if it links correctly???? or just check the generated exported sequence that is created.
definitely makes sense...why i didnt think of that i have no idea!
yeah, i have to break up these this audio way under 2 gigs for some reason, maybe they are grouped clips?? i get more errors trying to export omfs that i thought errors were possible...i absolutely dread exporting omfs for this reason...it usually takes me more than 3 passes of consolidating, then consolidating again to actually get the machine to produce an omf w/o getting errors!
Thank You!
Yes, pretend you're the dubbing mixer and you've just been given this OMF, nothing else. Take your original media offline, create a new project and import the OMF into a bin in that.
You should then see, and hear, exactly what the dubbing mixer is going to get.

Brian, when I click on the coffee icon in my Avid the coffee maker doesn't do anything. Are there some settings I should know about?
You need to check that you have the flamethrower.sys file in the right place. That's what boils the water.
Thanks. Problem solved!
