Hey Don, as far as i know you do not have to uninstall the 3rd party plugins. Do make sure you uninstall the Avid stuff like the DIO manager etc.. For me it went (besides the graph card) flawless on multiple systems without altering registery or anything else "abnormal" ...

Hi,
DSI.dll is installed with the Digidesign_Audio_Drivers_Setup.exe, which installs both drivers for digi devices (if you have any) and the engine necessary for Audio Suite. It should be located on your CD: Right Click the CD->Explore->Installers->DIGIAUDIOInstaller->Digidesign_Audio_Drivers_Setup.exe.
1) Run: C:/Program Files/Digidesign/Drivers/digidriver.exe and press "uninstall" to get rid of any old drivers on your system
2) Reboot
3) Install the new drivers with Digidesign_Audio_Drivers_Setup.exe on the CD
4) Reboot
Should be set! If you are having problems then just manually delete any old DSI.dll file you have and run the installer.

DonR:I suppose the uninstall also applies to the various plug-ins like Boris and Sapphire.
Just confirming Menno's post, Don. I left all third party software in situ and removed absolutely everything Avid, incuding relics of an earlier Xpress Pro install that I thought had already been fully removed.
My subsequent install just happened. It was an absolute anticlimax. No drama waiting to see what fell over, nothing. It just worked.

to download the missing file.
conleec: Okay, so I reinstalled 2.8.3 and this time it got closer to launching. I actually thought it was going to work. Then, at the last minute, I got this error: Man. I'm gonna kill myself. Chris

If you download the wrong version of DSI you're going to be in for a world of hurt. I would try the digi audio installer I mentioned..

Well for anybody who's keeping tabs, I reinstalled MC3 over the weekend and all went swimmingly. During the brief amount of testing that I was able to do, it definitely feels snappier and much quicker to render. Not sure what caused the horrible crash the last time around, but all is well now.
For anybody considering doing an upgrade, I'd still recommend using something to back up your boot partition beforehand, just in case. It's the first time I've ever had difficulties upgrading an Avid version.
Hey Guys,
So I've been running V3 absolutely without issue for a couple weeks now. However, today I left the machine rendering out reels for the audio house when I went to lunch and when I returned I had crashed with an "access violation" error.
I had to force-quit the application and when I tried to relaunch it I get the following error and the software crashes back out to the desktop.
I tried re-installing the software but I continue to get the same error message. This is the same error I received after installing the software the first time several weeks ago as well.
Has anybody else seen this, and how do I go about resolving this (seemingly) recurring problem?
Thanks in advance.

I would look to eliminate anything Avid checks with from the old install (ie files that are not replace when reinstalling) at startup time
First guess would be to move all the user and site settings from there usual places to a backup somewhere. Then try again
Maybe temporarily rename all your media file folders.
Good luck
PS I would also do a manual uninstall of the Avid DIO if I was reinstalling Avid again
