Hey all,

First things first.  Running 5.8.0 on OS 10.4.10. G5 (4x 2.5GHz PPC) and 2.5 GB RAM.  Quicktime is 7.2.  Does that cover?

Anyhow, trying to bring in some P2 footage into a project that will have both 30i and 59.94.  I set up the project at 30i, hoping to go between the formats within the project once I have all the material ingested.

When I try to use File > Import P2 > Clips to bin... and select the card on my drive, I receive the pictured error message.

I read somewhere that you can copy and paste the MXF files from the dummy card (on my drive) to the Avid MediaFiles > MXF > 1 folder and then use Media Tool to locate the master clips that are associated with those MXF files.  This worked for about 7/17 of the clips I'm trying to access for the edit.

Was hoping someone could shed some light on the error message, or if possible enlighten me otherwise.

The card is probably write protected.  Copy the entire Contents folder off of the P2 cards onto some media where the Avid can write a temporary media database (like your hard disk).  Alternately you can copy the MXF Video and Audio files into the Avid MediaFiles/MXF/1 folder and drag the master clips from the Media Tool into a bin.

BTW, P2 cards and their files usually show up as "locked" so they can't be overwritten or easily deleted without some extra steps.

no longer have the cards, they're all on an external, tried an internal too.

so, are you suggesting I unlock the files, and if so is that clips, video, and audio files within the contents folder?

the strange thing that happened with the MXF workaround is that it all came over, just appeared to be 7 of the 17 clips on the cards, one clip had a duration of almost 50 minutes, and I was told 30 minutes was the P2 limit.

Spanned clips do that.  I guess it's a limitation of importing Clips to Bin.

tried unlocking all those individual files and received the same error messge.

but, I guess this workaround serves for now and I can subclip as needed.  seems so ironic considering that P2 is supposed to be so much easier, I guess it's a trade off for not having to capture real time.
