I have captured some footage into a shared project, I now want that footage in another project, which is private.
When I try import> shared avid projects >test bin it tells me wrong format.
How can I get the footage into the private project without having to re-capture?
Thanks.
Are both projects the same format?

yes they are
do you want to import the media or do you want to use a bin from that project? if the latter you might as well copy paste the bin inside the project you created..it will show up fine and if indeed the same project settings apply it will open.

Keep in mind that any media shared into another project will go offlline if the original project it was borrowed from is deleted. Using the consolidation process will eliminate this possibility.

Cool, thanks for that guys, could I just ask what's the consolidation process and how do I implement it?
In the new project, use the open bins command to navigate to the appropriate bin from the source project, then right click on the clip or sequence and choose "consolidate/transcode". In the pop-up window, select "consolidate", identify the target drive, decide whether you want a new sequence created, and whether or not to skip media files already on target drive. Then launch the process. This will create a new set of clips that are linked to your new project.
Edit: nm. I walked away fro 5 mins on reply screen...
It has nothing to do with share/private projects. You just have 2 different project types this is why you are getting the Wrong Format error.

Sorry Larry, I'm a total newb and still don't get it, I've followed your advice I'm still at a loss as to what to do next, how do I get the media I've just consolidated into my original project?
Also copy and pasting the bin didn't work.
Sorry, dariv, I left out a step. I have edited my previous response to include it.
Also, after you have created the new clips, which will have a ".new" suffix attached to them, you can create a new bin in your new project and move the consolidated clips from the original project bin to the new project bin. And if you chose "master clips remained linked to media on the original drive", you will have two completely independent sets of identical clips - the original ones which are linked to the original project and the new set of clips linked to the new project.
great stuff, I'll get to it, thanks
Have been away from this one for a while to see if it made any difference. But I seem to be missing something, the procedure I've followed is below:
I have to projects; A and B, I wanted to take some captured footage from project B (shared) and put it into project A.
I consolidated the relevant clip in project B, then created a new folder in project A, then, tried to import from shared avid projects.
Once in shared avid projects I expected to see two sets of the consolidated clips, but only saw one, but tried to import anyway and the error message I get is; the file format of test.avp is not supported for import.
Where have I gone wrong?
You need to have the project open that you are consolidating to, not the one you're consolidating from when you create the new consolidated clips. That's why you use the open bins command while inside project A. This is necessary so that the .new clips are associated with project A, not project B. If you do the consolidation within project B, the new clips will be linked to project B. No importing after the fact is necessary. Just move the ".new" clips into a local bin in project A.
Thank you for having the patience with me Larry, I've finally got it now, that was my problem I was consolidating from the wrong project :-).
Once again thank you for your help.
