Hi Guys
i have a question, how can i change the aspect ratio of an export in QTref to 720x480 instead of 720x486. Is it on its not possible to do.
thx
ash
If your media is captured in a non-DV resolution, you can't. QT ref, by its very nature, is an unaltered pointer to the original media.

I'm pretty sure one could alter the display settings under CMD-J....?
I would use the following settings but perhaps I don't fully understand your question:
Export As: Quicktime Movie
Option-->> Use Avid DV Codec
Option-->> Custom
Under (Video Format) Use 720 x 480 DV, DVD
Then Under (Format Options) -> (Settings) select your preferred
(Compression Type:)
And then (Display Aspect Ratio) (Native Dimensions 720 x 480)
Works for me using the custom settings.
hey guys thx for your answers but still no hope. i am still trying to figure it out. i need to export a qt ref 720*480 instead of 720x486. anyone out there.
*Quicktime ref not quicktime movie.
Do a video mixdown at DV50 and export that? It'll be 720x480 natively since it's a DV resolution.
Michael.
yeah i was going to do a mixdown but it was taking forever i have a 2hr sequence. i know for a fact their is a simplar way i did it before but i have forgotten what i have done. dam old age.
but thx for the reply
Under the assumption that you are not letting us know what your final output is... I guess you are going to encode the QTRef to some other format via some encoder... therefore, export the QTRef then perform the frame size adjustment in that program prior to performing the encode.

you are absolutely right solo but the encoder that i am using Cinevision do not except 720x486 at QTref it only excepts 720x480 pixel ratio. And that is my issue
Then you probably need to do an export to a DV codec.
Since a QT ref is referring to the actual media, and the actual media apparently is 486, you can't make the ref 480, without reencoding it.

Capture in a DV resolution or mixdown to a DV resolution. I know it takes awhile with a 2 hr sequence, but it's likely your only option.
I've never seen or heard of another way to crop/change the aspect ratio of a quicktime reference file--if you're working in 720x486, that's the only reference you'll get (unless you mixdown or recapture).
I'd love for someone to correct me though and show us how to get around it, but I honestly don't believe it's possible.
My footage where captured in DV but all my imports titles and graphics are in 1:1. so if i do a mixdown wouldnt i loose quality in the graphics. I am trying to avoid that.

Your final output is DVD? You'll be loosing quality anyway.
If I'm going out to DVD, I import at DV50 to keep in the 720x480 raster and ultimately avoid the problem you have now.

File->Export->Quicktime Movie->Format options->choose codec and frame size.
