Sadly, all too true. And when software upgrades from Apple also often mandate OS updates, sometimes the price of being "cool" can be high.
Especially when you're a believer in having a stable workhorse which you don't change needlessly.
I used to be a Mac only guy. Forced into Windows NT land with the original Symphony.
Same here, except I went for an NT-based Meridien because there were no film options on the Mac in 2000.
Will MC 3.0 be okay on both Leapard and Tiger? Should we plan on updating the OS? And which version of QT is supported? Sorry if this has been posted eleswhere. Thinking ahead and excited. We are bidding on either two MC Nitris or one MC Nitris & one MC Mojo turnkey systems. Hope to see the hardware side available quickly as well.
Thanks for keeping up Avid folks.

It will run on both Leopard and Tiger. The official version of QT supported will be 7.4.2 but I have been running 7.4.5 for some time now with no problems.

Based on the read me doc. Looks like there are a lot of 'known' issues to be dealt with for the Avid folks. Hope it doesn't cause any major hickups on the user end. I guess we'll all find out soon.

This is one of the things I like with Avid. They do not hide "issues" with the software, but make the todo list official. This is communication by professionals to professionals.

According to the ReadME and everything I've heard and read elsewhere, MC 3.0 is not supported on Tiger. Also, QT 7.4.5 is approved.

well. looks like we'll have more answers tomorrow.
As Marianna indicated earlier in this thread, she will have more information for us tomorrow. I'm sure it will show up here.
It does run on Tiger. A bunch of us had to run it on that OS to sleuth out a FW problem during Beta.
hi,
I'm ready to ugrade to MC3 and glad I've waited. Now I get the up to date version of third party's like sorenson and borisBCC.
The only thing I'd like to clear out is this FW bug. We have a Tiger and Leopard dual boot on our systems. BLKDOG can you confirm I will not encounter this FW bug if I stick to Tiger 10.4.11 to run MC3.
I can wait for leopard to be fully supported, not a real issue to me.
Thanks for helping us making the transition.
The problem does not exist in Tiger but, loading 3.0 on Tiger is not an easy task. Avid doesn't recommend it. Apparently, it was easier in earlier beta builds than it is now.
That was not the answer I was hoping for, anyways thanks for the quick reply.
FW output has been an issue for quite a long time for avid, since Xpresspro 5.5 we had a lot of stability issues when outputing or monitoring throught deck. I was hoping this big update would improve that, it looks like the very opposite is happening.
